And Now, For Something Completely Different--A Nordstrom's Complaint

poor customer service - lack of customer service

I went to Nordstroms in the Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo CA last Sunday. I went to the Chanel Cosmetics counter and got excellent service.
I then went to the MAC counter to pick up a few things. There were TWO salespeople helping ONE person. I stood there for a good five minutes. They completely ignored me. They did not even say "we'll be right with you". There were no other people at the counter and I KNOW they saw me.
After no acknowledgement from them, I left the counter and went the freestanding MAC store in the mall were I rec'd great service and purchased the items I needed. Bottom line, due to the poor customer service, or lack there of, your company lost my sale. I am a frequent Nordstom shopper and was NOT happy with this experience.
Please note that I also posted this on your Nordstrom Website and no one has contacted me, although it states that I should receive a response within 2 days. How's that for great customer care????????

I'm not sure what would make this situation "sit" well with me. What do you suggest?

Generally speaking, almost all MAC Counters in retail stores are
leased spaces, with the MAC associates being employees of the parent
company, Estee Lauder. Try directing your complaint to them.

One thought I had when reading your post is that the second
salesperson could have been new and in training. At my store the
person in training can't help you because they just don't know how so
they shadow a trained person. They still should have said something
to you a greeting at least.

I can tell you, for a fact, that Nordstrom's reputation for great
customer service is highly overrated.

I have had similar experiences, and they are held up to be the
example for all retailers, ha!

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my
understanding of the relationship between cosmetic companies and
department stores: The cosmetic company leases space from the
department store. Period. No matter how much the cosmetic sales may
be, the only $$ the department store receives is the lease charge.
Ever notice that the cosmetic clerks have their own 'uniforms?' Also
at the Marshall Field's store in my area, the name badges have the
cosmetic company's name displayed. Nowhere on that badge does it show
'Marshall Field's.'

BTW, 'I went to Nordstroms in the...' Isn't the name of the store
'Nordstrom?' If it isn't, the name on the store in the mall about 3/4
mile from me is misspelled.

for a reason.

That annoys me as well. I don't like it when the salesperson does not
acknowledge me; I don't feel as though it is my job to flag them down
when they are right beside me. I am like you--you ignore me, I leave.
However, I am not sure what you want in writing the letter?
Compensation (for what, the fact they ignored you?)? Letting the
company know about lack of customer service? I was ignored in Bebe
and Wetseal, yet I don't think I have the right to recieve
compensation for my annoyed-ness.

Could you maybe have spoken up and ASKED one of the two employees to
help you? I bet they'd have been glad to do it. Maybe it appeared
you were very patient and they were willing to let it go at that.

Nice try for a freebie. And I'd say it's very misguided.
