American Telecom Rebate - Young America

Posted Fri December 22, 2006 8:51 pm, by Tom M. written to Office Depot, Inc.

Purchased an American Telecom Model #5105B Digital Corkless Phone with base station plus 3 handset extensions on 9/25/06 for $89.99. See sales receipt (R2W79-H39X9-47KZ1). I filed two rebates (ATS Offer 8442/8443) for a total rebate of $70. I e-mailed Office Depot who at first suggested resubmitting my data. A subsequent e-mail negated that e-mail, and denied any existence of the rebate offer. I visited the local OD store, and they said they were powerless. What does one do in this case?

Refund the $70 directly to me.

I finally got mail from Office Depot with 2 checks for $70 telling me
they had decided to intervene in this matter and pay the rebates that
American Telecom had not honored since I bought the phones, and paid
for the phones at Office Depot!!!!! I even got got two $5 gift cards
for free as an apology from Office Depot!!

I have got the same problem. This is a real scam. should tell Office
Depot to stop selling that product or any products from American
Telecom with rebates.

I suggested that all of us take American Telecom to court. I called
that company in GA and a lady told me to send an email to inquire. I
sent twice winthin a month or two. I got two exact replies with polite
but formatted language, which said that I will get rebate shortly.
But, it has been 3 months since I got that email and no sign to get a
rebate check.

ACTION: TAKE THAT COMPANY TO COURT.

Here it is Oct 13, 2007, and I am still waiting for two rebates for
$20 and $50 from March 26, 2007 from American Telecom, offer #H311521
and H411522, bought at Office Depot also. They informed me repeatedly,
after multiple calls (spent an entire day now calling and tracing
these people by phone and the internet) that the rebates were approved
back before my first call on 07/01/2007.

Seems like a trend here since these prior complaints go back to 2006.

I am ready to file a class action suit, and start taking other legal ,
political, and news media action myself.

I am yet again another victim it appears, of American Telecoms rebate
scam. I tried as, a fellow victim here did, to contact the ceo of
American Telecom, but it did me no good. I am thinking that we would
be wise to file a class action suit. In the meantime, I am contacting
the attorney generals consumer protection department, as well as my
local TV station that do consumer alert segments.

With my situation, I sent in 2 rebates, the $20 and $50, both in the
same envelope, both with the required individual backup. I was told
they only got the backup for the $20. To me if it wasnt a scam, its
so obvious they messed up. They have both claims and back up for one,
claiming they lost the other backup yet its the identical back up from
the same product as the $20 rebate. Again, having contacted the CEO
at American Telecom, I received an initial respnse, but then nothing.
I give them another couple weeks and then I will post again, anywhere
I can to alert customers never to buy their products if they cant be
ethical. Will keep you posted

I have also faced the same problem.
The rebate site indicated that the $50 check was mailed on Jan 2,
2007 but I haven't receive.

On Feb 6, I confirmed that the address is correct and they could not
issue another check because "system is not allowing" and I was
informed to call back after 2 weeks.

After couple of weeks, the second check of $20 was mailed in the same
way and not received at my end.

I made 10 calls at 2 weeks interval and I was always informed, "system
not allowing, call after 2 weeks".

On the last call, I got the answering to contact American telecom
services if there has been error.

American Telecom Services tel. number is continously on answering.
Today, I tried again and the mailbox is full.

I have also faxed them but no reply, nothing.

Office depot representative says that they cannot do anything about
it, once the rebate is received by web-rebates.com

A really bad rebate experience and don't know what to do.

I am sure this is a SCAM, even i tried calling then and every time i
heard the same story (Please call after 14 days). In my case, they
said that the Original UPC code not found, i mailed two times and also
faxed the same. No responce, yesterday i asked the lady to put her
superwiser on call and he assured me that they have everything and my
check will be mailed in few days. Lets see what happen next :(.

Wendy,

Please help me out...I have been through the same thing and need to
do
something about this. I have made numerous calls, gotten the same
postcards as everyone and it is all useless. Could you please give me
the contact information of whoever you were able to speak with so I
can try to get ahold of them for myself as well. This is crazy that
we
have to go to these means to just get our rightfully deserved money
back!!! Thanks Doug

This seems to be a pattern with them. I purchased the same system,
with the same rebate offers. I got a postcard today stating that the
rebate was rejected because it was an "Office Depot" offer only. It
shows on the receipt that it is from the Office Depot in Alexandria,
LA. I guess I'll start the resubmission process, but I'll refer to
the other problems they have had processing this offer. I think they
are just trying to scam us by not honoring their offer.

Tom,

Have you received your check yet? I had the same problem only they
eventually sent my $20 check but is telling me the $50 one wasn't sent
in on time. I make 11 phone calls to them each time I was told they
would "expedite" a check to me. Yesterday was the last straw. I did
some research and found American Telecom Headquarters in Atlanta and
called their CEO personally. The COO got on the line with me and
apologized profusely I had threatened a class action suit, contact
Better Business Bureau and Dateline NBC guess thats how he ended up on
the phone. Long story short he has heard of this problem and is
dealing with each call he recieves personally. The mail had gone out
yesterday for him but he says the check with be mailed directly from
headquarters and I should recieve it by Monday! They hired a company to
disburse the rebates and they have failed miserably he wants to
rectify the problem to clear American Telecom's name. Perseverence
pays off! If you need more info I can forward you the contact info.

Hey,
I received the same post card, denying the $50 rebate, claiming I
missed the mail-in date. After calling (It took 27 minutes to get the
info I finally did), they gave me 4 reasons why it wasn't
processed..1.missed the date (they finally confirmed they received it
Dec 30-which meant that I didn't miss it) 2. wrong UPC code (had to
read them what I had zeroxed-they were wrong again) 3. not processed
within 30 days of purchase (after reading them their own rebate form,
without that stipulation, he backed down) and finally, 4. their system
was down and couldn't process the request. (All the while maintaining
that getting the $20 out wasn't a problem..seemed like they were
trying to keep me focussed there, rather than on the $50 one) I spoke
with a supervisor (Donna) who let me know that I'd receive my $50
within 3 weeks....after letting her know I'd lead a lawsuit and file
with the better business bureau. I think we have a class action
lawsuit here, if these checks don't come through. Illinois

I was in the same position. Call 1-866-661-2102 it handles American
Telecom rebates. They sent me a card saying it wasn't postmarked
within 30 days of purchase which is a bogus claim. I told them it was
and that I had other family members purchase the same phone and we
would all return them and notify the Better Business Bureau. She
processed the rebate for $20. I recieved the check yesterday, I then
realized she never processed the $50 rebate I just called the number
again the gentleman wanted to know when I sent it in I told him I
didnt' have the exact date infront of me but it was definetely within
the time period of 30 days and he said he would process it and I
should get the check within 10-14 days. They obviously have a scam
going on. Try the number above and good luck!!

I bought the same product on 9/25/06 and encountered the same problem.
After a lot of searching, I found a website that could track my rebate
(only the one for $20.00). The website is www.web-rebates.com
Good luck
