David beat Conan in the TV ratings for the entire week last week. Mission accomplished.

It's interesting to me how many so-called Americans (including the letter writer) are so quick to squash David Letterman's right to freedom of speech by making a joke that, perhaps, might be in poor taste.
Freedom of speech means you have to let people say things you may not like....so that YOU have the right to say things other may not like.
If you don't like it, change the channel. No one is forcing you to watch Letterman.
Palin was completely in the wrong for making a stink about the joke and complaining about it. Obviously, she does not value the Bill of Rights, the Constitutions or other ideals that most of us Americans hold so dear.

I also applaud the Olive Garden for having the foresight to discontinue their advertising on the Late Show an entire month before David Letterman's offensive joke was even made. Not only are they doing the moral thing, but they're also apparently clairvoyant, which you have to admit is pretty awesome.
So kudos to the Olive Garden, for their commitment to human decency and their ability to manipulate the space-time continuum at will.

over a controversial joke that might affect their sales.
Um... not for you, letter writer, but for everyone who complains about it...
what's so bad about a company making a decision on how to manage its own advertisements
should we perhaps force them to buy more air time then?
it's their company. unless they're breaking a law... let them run it as they see fit.

Seriously?
You're promoting the fact that a corporation made a FINANCIAL decision so that folks like you would see them as moral. Trust me, they aren't. Corporations don't HAVE morals, but it's nice to know their little ploy worked.
And while we are at it, while I don't condone making fun of anyone's child (and I'm still trying to figure out where he said someone raped her!), why is anyone up in arms over the Palin's being the butt of jokes?
Seems to me that Sarah did a fine job using her family and destroying "so called" family values by espousing "Abstinence Only" programs with a pregnant daughter in tow. If anyone's "integrity" and skill as a "moral leader" should be questioned, it's her.

If you had read the report correctly Olive Garden's advertising stinit was over. And if you watch any of these late night shows they rarely if ever sign back up again as its very costly to do so.
Olive Garden has never been one of my favortie places to eat. I have to admit their salad and bread sticks are good...otherwise there is no other reason to go there as far as I am concerned.
The only item on the menu made fresh is the salad. they just add the tomatoes/onions, ect.
Just about everything else is portioned out and frozen then heated in the microwave or on the stove top when its ordered.
Its not authentic Italian food...can't even be compared to it.

Both thes topics were covered more completely in the media.
Olive Garden's spokesman has stated there were no more ads scheduled, they were not "pulled". This is the media looking for one more story where there isn't one.
This was not about raping young girls. It was a joke about consensual sex with a woman who has already been there, and done "that". She has admitted that in public.
Olive Garden has horrible food. If I were on Death Row I'd prefer the grub from the prison kitchen for my last meal.
