VERY POOR SERVICE!!

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

My family and I are frequent vistors of The Olive Garden here in town - well not anymore!! We had horrible service from the time we got there! It was close to 5 o'clock and had to wait for 10 minutes to get seated, when they weren't even busy. Once we got seated, we were greeted by our waiter which was overly phony! There is a fine line, and he crossed it. After taking our drink order he tried to push us to get more expensive drinks, we said no politely then, he asked us if we would like any appitizers, when we nicely declined again, he seemed huffy and went on his way. You could tell he wanted us to order higher priced item so his tip would be bigger, I wonder if he ever thought that he was genually nice, he might get a tip that way too. After we ordered, (which he didn't write down, which made us worry that we didn't get all of our food that we ordered) we recieved our salad and breadsticks. We had asked for butter, and he said he would get some for us. About 10 minutes later, with still no butter - we were greeted by a waitress, stating that our waiter had gone on his "required half-hour lunch". She made sure we were doing ok, and we let her know we still didn't recieve the butter we had asked for over 10 minutes ago, she said no problem, she would go get it for us right now, well she stopped at about 2 other tables after ours, while we were still waiting for our butter. It was close to another 5 minutes before we got our butter. 15 minutes for a couple cubes of butter seems a little redicuolous to me! So, when it came time to recieve our food, we had not recieved the meatballs one of us had ordered, and the substitute waitress didn't know anything about it, so she went back to the the kitchen and got some, 5 minutes later! After that we ordered more breadsticks, we got them from our orginal waiter that was back from lunch. After that, we waited for about 25 minutes for boxes and a check! 25 minutes! I think that is a little rediculous! The waiter came, and I asked for our check and boxes. And, he could probably tell by my tone that i wasn't very happy. 10 minutes later we got boxes, and still no check! At that time, another waiter came with a whole plate of spaghetti and meatballs (one person in our party got a never ending pasta bowl), but we never ordered another plate, so the waiter just looks at us and asks if we want to take it home, we said sure! So he came back after a several minutes and gave us the box (still no check), and rudely said, "Well, we really aren't suppose to let you take the never ending pasta bowls home" and I stearnly said, " We didn't order it!" And, he is the one that offered us to take it in the first place. I think that was completely rude as he was insuenating that we ordered it just to take it home, when we did no such thing! We asked for the check once again along with a bag for our containers! He then stops at another table then get us our check, brings it to us with no bag. Seriously, how hard is it to get a bag? It was just a horrible ending to a very bad experience! I don't think we will be back there for a very long time, and its a shame because we went their quite frequently!

Work with the people they hire, he was very rude and he costed Olive Garden our business for a very long time! Its a shame we had to spend close to $50 in dinner and not enjoy a single minute there! Also, when its firday night, they should think to consider not to have their employees take their lunch break in the middle of a busy time, we fill like we were sat in the corner, and forgot about us, the service was absolutely horrible! And, I will be sure to mention it to the rest of my extended family and friends!!!!

Probably half or more of your complaints may be valid, but because of
your angry tone you are using in this letter you completely undermine
yourself. Try to rewrite it so you can be taken a bit more seriously.

He probably asked you if you wanted an appetizer because often times
they have a "featured so-and-so" that there bosses tell them to
recommend. Politely say "No thanks, I am not interested" and move on
with your life. And $50 for a family! My hubby and I spend that alone
because we aren't cheap or annoying.

you mean he stopped at other tables to help other people? you weren't
his only customers?!?! that is unheard of and outrageous!!

please start ordering to-go meals or better yet stay at home!

Don't worry, I also think it is "redicuolous " Please learn to spell
and use correct punctuation.

Thanks,

to be your waitress. You act like because you are eating out that you
should be treated like kings and queens.

OMG, this traumatic experience is going to have you in therapy for
years!

Reading this post with all its bad spelling, grammar, punctuation, and
the gratuitous usage of the exclamation point, leads me to believe
this country is going downhill fast.

And I concur with the previous poster---you sound like an absolute
tyrant and hard person to please.

You strike me as someone who might be just a tad hard to please.
When I see a complaint about the waiter being FRIENDLY?
I know I'm in for a doozy of a tale and you do not disappoint.

"It was close to 5 o'clock and had to wait for 10 minutes to get
seated, when they weren't even busy..."

"...they should think to consider not to have their employees take
their lunch break in the middle of a busy time..."

So were they busy or not?

"insuenating"

What does this alleged word mean?

"firday"

Is this a new day of the week?

And you know, I don't blame you one bit for complaining about the
friendly waiter! What a jerk he is. I would have left if I were you.

"I will be sure to mention it to the rest of my extended family and
friends!!!!"

Boy, you sure told them!

I think you did have good complaints in some part but you nitpicked a
lot of it. 5 or 10 minute waits are no big deal. I don't think it's an
experience that would turn me off of going there. Just my own opinion.

There is one question I am wondering about, was the restaurant busy or
not busy.

When you had to wait ten minutes to be seated the restaurant was not
busy, but when the waiter was going on his break in the middle of a
busy time. I guess your defination of "busy" is what suits your
needs the most. Don't go out to eat if you can't wait for your meal.
The butter incident was a good reason to complain. Personally if you
ordered breadstick they should have brought out the butter with it and
you should not have to ask for it. Maybe the waiter forgot, which is
okay as long as he corrects the mistake right away.

You say it is a shame that you spent $50 at a restaurant and could not
enjoy your meal, well what is more shameful that when it took ten
minutes to seat you the restaurant was "not busy" but when the waiter
was going on his break he should not because the restaurant was
packed. Make up your mind. Don't change the defination of busy just
to suit your needs. Also the waiter has every right to have a break
after working for a long time, especially after dealing with customers
like you.

Another thing that is shameul is that you are a regular customer and
you had great or atleast okay service in the past, but because of this
one trip you are going to not only not return for a long time but tell
your family and friends. They will probably laugh at you for
complaining about waiting for 10 minutes to be seated at a restaurant.

One good thing about this letter is atleast you did not ask for
freebies.

Also, don't you just LOVE when someone says how they've always had a
good experience at a place, but after one bad experience, the world
STOPPED!!!!

Oh my GOD!!! It's the APOCALYPSE!!!! I had ONE bad experience in 50
times, and I'll NEVER, EVER go there AGAIN!!

::Foot stomping::

::Arms flailing around::

Get over yourself. If I were in charge of this OG, I'd pray to God,
Allah, Buddha...hell, I'd pray to the dammed FLY ON THE WALL that you
NEVER darkened my store's doorstep again.

Let's see, 5:00 on a Friday afternoon. My guess is getting busy, but
I wasn't there. But, you say they weren't busy when you got there.
Then, your [phony tip-grubbing] waiter goes on break 20 minutes later,
and you can't believe they would let him do that in "the middle of a
busy time". I'm no genius, but if 5:20 is the middle, where exactly
is the beginning if at 5:00 "they weren't even busy"? 5:10? I can't
believe that server didn't run for the kitchen when she heard about
the butter. She had the nerve to stop at two tables?

This costed Olive Garden your business? What are you insuenating?

CONGRATULATIONS, OLIVE GARDEN EMPLOYEES! This self-entitled whiny
brat with an insanely overdeveloped sense of entitlement will not be
darkening your door ever again.

Lindsay, you should be ashamed of yourself. Waitstaff often stop at
other tables before fulfilling the request of the first table, in
order to save time from running back and forth.

You are one piece of work. I can't imagine you have any friends. Good
luck with your empty little life.

Oh my God! You had to wait 10 MINUTES to get seated at the Olive
Garden? The horror! The whole staff should be fired!

Sigh. Ten minutes is nothing. I've waited at the Olive Garden, and
other restaurants, for up to two hours at times. Next time, sit at the
bar and have a few drinks. After awhile, you'll forget all about
dinner.

And how do you know how long it took for everything to get to your
table? Were you timing them?

Actually, I agree some (but only SOME) of your wait times were long,
and it also sounds as if the waiter was getting a little sick of your
table and was deliberately avoiding it. What did the manager say when
you brought this to his/her attention? Oh, you didn't; that's right.
Probably good for him/her; if it took more than a nanosecond for the
manager to get to your table, you'd be complaining about that too.

Sounds like you were looking for problems from the "10 minutes to get
seated" (which is a reasonable amount of time). From your letter, I
think it would be safe to say that no matter what they did, you
weren't going to be satisfied, and went out of your way to find things
wrong. Sounds like you even brought a stopwatch to time every step of
your dining experience. You lost all sympathy with the "overly phony"
comment. Who are you to determine the sincerity of a server? They are
there to provide a service, which he did. Get over it. I'm sure they
will be happy to never see you again.

People who use the word "costed" "appitizers" "redicuolous" (x2)
"insuenating" in a letter really shouldn't judge others!

Seriously, if you can't spell it properly, just leave it out. $0.25
words that aren't spelled properly become debits and eat away at your
credibility!

I perceive the problem started when you interpreted the waiter's
attitude as "overly phony, huffy and pushy". From then on, nothing
could be right.
You were concerned that he didn't write down the order "(which he
didn't write down, which made us worry that we didn't get all of our
food that we ordered)". They are trained to remember. I admire this
talent.
First you state the restaurant was not busy, then at the end demand
the employees not take a break "in the middle of a busy time". Well it
can't be both. The employees get tired and hungry also. Yes, he should
have sent someone else over with your butter before leaving, but that
is not a great offense.
Instead of waiting 25 minutes for for a box and check, just get up
and go to the hostess station. You would have it asap. I have done
this a couple of times.
Really, I don't feel you have legitimate complaints. These things
surely were irritating but would not have ruined my meal and stopped
me from returning to a place I went to "quite frequently". The waiter
has a responsibility. So does the customer. Speak up- take action-
enjoy your dinner and get over it.

As a waitress, I often have to stop by more than one table. That was
if tables 8 & 10 both need more of something I can make just one trip
instead of two.
As for not taking a lunch break during that time, if it wasn't busy
why shouldn't they be able to take a lunch break?
