rude service

I visited the Olive Garden Restaurant last evening in Marlborough Massachusetts with my mother. I ordered the port fillitino, and she ordered the mixed grill. Our waitress started out very good, she came right over to the table, took our drink orders, took our dinner orders, and brought our drinks.... then the service just completely dropped off!! After about 25 minutes our entrees were brought to the table by someone other than our waitress, at this point we had not seen our waitress since she took our dinner order. When my entree was received, I was extremely disappointed!! The pork was so dry and tough, it was almost impossible to eat, but even worse were the roasted potatoes, they were completely unedible. They had so much salt like seasoning on them, and the peppers that were mixed with them were almost undistinguisable as peppers, they looked like they definitely had been fried in a fryolator. I took one bite and was unable to eat the potatoes, so i pushed the plate aside, hoping our server would see it and come over to the table so I could order new potatoes without that salty seasoning on them, no such luck!! I waited a good 15 minutes and still never once saw our server, so I decided to stop a server that was just pasasing by, and was thoughrouly shocked at how rude she was!! I started by telling her that the potatoes had way way too much of that seasoning on them, and I could not eat them. I was about to ask if she could get our waitress for us, when she cut me off, and in a very snotty tone said "I don't understand". To which I relied, "I don't like them, they are disgusting", once again she said "I don't understand", this time I was ext4remely irritated and replied "what don't you understand about they are disgusting?" She then said, "I'm not your server" and walked away!!! Finally after waiting an ADDITIONAL 10 minutes our server came back, and I asked for new non-seasoned potatoes, I also advised her that the pork was very tough, stringy and over cooked. she left and came back with the potatoes, and also said "my manager said to take the pork off the bill", which I accepted but was not looking for, I was more upset over the potatoes. When the new potatoes finally came out, my mother had finished eating (her meal was very good according to her), so i just askerd for a to-go container. I took my meal home, and heated it up for lunch today, and once again, very inedible!! the pork after being re-heated was completewly inedible, and the potatoes, were completely undercooked!! for the first time ever i was really disappointed with all aspects of my Olive Garden dining experience!!

While I appreciate the manager thelling my server to take the pork off the bill, I really would have appreciated a simple "I'm sorry" from someone!! I feel that the service was extrewmely lacking, and then I was treated very rudely when there WAS a problem, then no one even apologized. I did not ask for the pork to be removed from the bill, I was fully prepared to pay for it, as I planned to take it home and eat it for lunch today, but what I would have liked, was to be treated with the respect that a customer should be treated with, and not being fluffed off just because the one waitress i did manage to flag down was not OUR waitress!!!!

Because pork dishes need to be well done in order to ensure you do not
get sick restaurants routinely over cook them. In addition, pork
dries out easily even when you do not over cook it. I have had the
dish you talked about and while I liked the potatoes, I agree the pork
was bad. I have not ordered pork in a restaurant since.

I recently worked at Perkins for a week one day and i think i might
know why you had such a disgusting experience. I had worked for 22
years at a restaurant where the waitresses had a station and they were
in charge of everything that happened in that station. But at
Perkins, while you had a station, if food was set in the window any
waitress who was nearby had to take it out no matter whose station it
was in. This meant that even though i rang up the food and it was in
my station, another waitress probably took it out, while i was busy
carrying out other waitresses food. To say it was mass confusion is an
understatement. Anyway, that may account for why you didn't see your
waitress for a long time.

However, the other waitress being rude to you is inexusable. I would
definitely pursue that and call the manager for a personal one on one
chat about her rudeness. Then i would contact corporate and ask them
if they follow the procedure described above. If so, tell them about
your experience and ask them to explore the possibility that this
policy is probably to blame for at least part of the problem. Good
luck.

Oh I agree. I am with you. That was a horrible experience and they
completely dropped the ball. Its suprising to me since every time I
have gone to the Olive Garden the employees have been so nice and
helpful and always on the ball. Maybe it was just an "off" night or
maybe they need better management.

Either way, your letter is great and its even better because you didnt
ask for compensation. Although, in this case, I think you deserve it.
Actually, a gift card would be perfect for this situation for them to
prove to you that this isnt normal for them. I hope you hear something
from them.

Boy, what lousy service. I usually don't like it when people ask for
freebies but in this case I'd say they should give you something.

I think I feel that way since my father was born and raised in
Marlboro! :) (that's how we spell it)

My aunt lives on Spring St.

I agree with the others. Poor Service is one thing..but being ingnored
or treated this way is another. I think something should have been
done more pro actively on the part of the waitstaff to at least
acknowlege your dissatisfaction. Even the Manager dropped the ball by
just taking the one item off the bill. A simple "I'm sorry" or "I was
wrong" is all it takes. And following through. Being brushed off that
way is uncalled for.
I don't see how, once finding someone has some issue with the service
and/or food, that they would do so little to help. I'm glad you wrote
to Olive Garden to let them know. Maybe they'll pay more attention and
save someone else the aggrivation.
I hope they respond and do something to make this right.

I personally think the manager should have comped your meal AND given
you a properly prepared pork chop to take home with you. Certainly
that would have been a goodwill gesture to ensure that you'd give the
restaurant another try. I wonder... Olive Garden is always packed,
maybe a place that's constantly busy just gets lazy, like they don't
feel like they have to work THAT hard to please you.

For a larger chain restaurant, sometimes the only way for things to
run smoothly is to have anyone with a free hand run out "hot food"
while it is still hot. That way food doesn't sit in the window until
your waitress has time and get crusty and die. Most servers want to
run their own tables' food very badly, and will whenever possible. So
your waitress was probably very busy. But the treatment you received
from flagging down another server should have been addressed with a
manager. And your own server should have at least walked by to see if
everything was ok, which it obviously wasn't if your uneaten food was
pushed aside like that. I think it was wrong that the manager did not
come out to see what was up and say something, but it also sounds like
it was a very busy night and the problem could be quickly resolved by
taking it off the bill.

Alot of restaurants will have a different server bring out your entree
if "your" server gets overly busy - I've even had cooks or managers
bring food to me because my server couldn't. I don't think there's
anything wrong with that.

I do agree that the waitress you flagged down should have been a
little more understanding of the situation and not snapped at you.
When I waitressed, if someone else's table asked me for help, I
listened to their concern, then relayed it to the waitress in charge
of that table.

Glad to see you're not asking for freebies! I understand about the
potatoes - I don't like a lot of salt or seasoning on them myself.
And undercooked, that's just plain gross! As for the pork still being
tough and stringy when you heated it up for lunch...in my experience,
pork is rarely ever moist and tasty when reheated, but that's just my
opinion.
