1st horrible experience ever at outback

Last tuesday my family of 4 went to outback as we have done many times. Up until that visit we have already enjoyed ourselves and the food. Since the entire complaint deals with my wife I will deal with that incident only. My wife ordered the 9oz outback special. After about a 25 minute wait the waitress brought out our food but failed to have anything for my wife. After asking if we have a separate check because there was no notation of any other order she went to the back to find out what was going on. After about 10 minutes our regular waiter came out and stated they were out of the 9oz special and would my wife like the 6 or I think 12 oz. Keep in mind they said this after my children and I were halfway or more done with our own meals and apparently nobody bothered telling us this half an hour earlier when we put our order in.
At this point we expected that she would receive the 12oz for the price of the 9oz but apparently this was not the case so she ordered the 6oz and were assured they would put a rush on it. 20 minutes later and far after the rest of the family had finished their meals we asked to simply have the steal to go as it did not arrive on time and everyone was done. Another 15 minutes went by before they finally brought the steak out in the to go container and she too it home to eat where of course it had already cooled down.
If I had wanted to eat at home I would have ordered pick up to avoid paying for drinks and a tip. Instead my wife did not get to eat at the restaurant, we sat there for over half an hour after were were done eating waiting for a steak to be prepared, and the only apology we received was a half hearted 'oh sorry'. I cannot even begin to understand why it was so difficult to tell us when we ordered that the steak was out or why they could not have just upped the steak size instead of not telling us. We spent over $50 plus tip for nothing and until outback does something about this you have lost our business(which goes back more years than I can count) for life.

I do not understand why you could not ask to speak to a manager as soon as they messed up the first time and failed to bring the order again after the second time.
This would have had a bigger impact I am sure.
I stopped going to Outback years ago...went twice was disatisfied both times and never returned. Others say its pretty good...but more times than not there are people who complain in PFB about Outback lately.
I guess the originality is gone as there are so many other competative places to eat that give better quality and prices.

I want to make sure I understand this. Your server brought entire meals for you and your children, but not as much as a scrap of bread for your wife?
Then, even when it became apparent that it would be a wait for your wife's entire meal, including bread and salad(or whatever Outback includes in the prices of a meal), you and your kids decided to dig in anyway.
Way to go, Dad! What a great example to set for your children. At the very, very least, you could have split your meal with your totally food-less wife. Then, the two of you could have split her meal while at home.
You did not spend "over $50 plus tip for nothing". You and the kids were able to eat full meals while your wife sat there like Cinderella, gazing longingly at the bounty put before you. You decided to eat three meals. You decided to NOT speak to a manager immediately after the problem became apparent.
You decided to tip at all. I may get slammed for this, but the server did not do her job properly. I know that servers earn peanuts and depend on tips for their livelihoods. Our family tips over the suggested minimum of 15%.
But a server who does not bring such a situation to the immediate attention of a manager, and who does not make sure the order is indeed "rushed", and who does not make sure that at least some portion of the meal is comped--is not doing the job properly.
So, Dad, you have multiple issues here. To me, the big one is the utter disrespect you showed your wife. The next one is the fact that you and your wife wimped out and did not demand satisfaction at the time.

Outback is very overrated.
I would not have left any tip.
next time just cancel any dinners not brought out on time, and stick with it no matter what they throw at you.

You are lucky. I gave Outback about 12 chances, and at least a third of those visits were what I would call miserable. If it had been the first four, there would have been no more. Then I took my OB giftcard over to their franchise Carrabba's to use it up, and after 10 visits there 3 of *those* sucked. But I digress.
I had a similar but different OB experience, in which a half hour went by, no food, and then the server figured out the kitchen hadn't "noticed" my order. So 20 minutes more to make my entree. When I got the food, the french fries weren't there because the oil had been turned off. I was assured those would be right out. When I got the fries 20 minutes after my food, the longest one was a half inch long. So they comped my meal, gave me the standard apology, and the "free" one next time sucked as well.
My recommendation would be to give OB the ole Aussie boot, but maybe your location can redeem itself. Good luck.
Never again.
