Dear Outback,
On Tuesday, January 9, 2007, my family and I dined out the Outback Steakhouse at 7731 Five Mile Road in Cincinnati, Ohio. We enjoyed our meal a great deal, until our dessert was presented. "Sydney's Sinful Sundae" (SSS) has always been one of my favorite desserts. When it was deliverd to our table, I wasn't even sure that it is what I had ordered. Instead of the ice cream being "rolled in toasted coconut" (as described on the menu), the toasted coconut (a very small amount) was sprinkled on the bottom, which is also where the chocolate syrup was. The ice cream scoop itself was stark naked, having not one flake of coconut, nor one drop of chocolate syrup on it. The poor presentation (the lack of contrast between the ice cream and whipped cream, and having the syrup only at the bottom of the bowl made it look unappetizing, to say the least) may have been tolerable if it had at leasted tasted as good as I had received previously, but it didn't. Because there was so little toasted coconut, a big part of the flavor was missing. Additionally, in past experiences of the SSS, the ice cream scoop was "softened" (I assume due to the rolling in coconut), which greatly enhances the flavor. This time it was very hard.
I was very disappointed by the Sydney's Sinful Sundae I got this evening, which was part of my birthday celebration. At a minimum, I would like you to confirm for me that this method of making the SSS is not the new "norm" for your restaurants because it is somehow "easier," and that my experience is not one I should expect to be repeated. It would be nice if you'd buy me another one. I didn't even finish it this time (which is unusual), because I don't really like plain vanilla ice cream. I really enjoy the toasted coconut.
