Pep Boys try to avoid paying rebates.

Posted Thu March 30, 2006 10:01 pm, by Phi T. written to Pep Boys-Manny, Moe & Jack

Write a Letter to this Company

Since the beginning of this year, Pep Boys has rejected all 3 of my rebate submissions with the same reason: "The receipt(s) submitted did not show the purchase of any qualifying items." I believe this is an attempt to avoid paying rebates or at least delay the paying. I had to contact Pep Boys to resolve the first rebate, but do not want to contact them every time for each rebate.

I fulfilled my part by filling out the forms and submitting the required documents. I expect Pep Boys to fulfill their part by paying the rebates on time.

GOD is good.
I was notified by Pep Boys via email that I had $35.00 rewards. I
click on the print now logo, but it would not print the coupon. I got
the card that they gave me so that I could have someone to take it to
the store and I figured that the $35.00 point would surely be on the
card and that they could purchase some items for me. The person at Pep
Boys stated that I had to print out the discount, but the page will
not display and the expiration date is coming upon me. They also seem
to make the person register for their "Glovebox," to send us emails,
but I was not able to print any coupon for the rewards. I have tried
almost over 10 times to print this coupon with no success. I am not a
last minute person either and this is making me angry. I am getting
the run around and this is a scam.

I submitted the form and a copy of my receipt on 6/6/2009 it was
for a $ 20,- rebate on brakes. The store employee had filled out
the form and I send it out the same day. After waiting for about 3
months I called them up to find out why I had not received any
response. The answer was "we have not received anything, you have
to resubmit it to the Resubmit Department". This is what I did.
Now it is Febr. 2010, I called them up "No, there is nothing
in our system and now it is too late." It looks like they
throw a part of the rebate applictions systematically into the
trash- each application that ends up in the trash is worth money
to them since they won't have to send out a check for an
application that ends up in the shredder.

Hello All,

I had purchased a pair of wiper blades from Pepboys where I was
supposed to get one free as a mail in rebate and I too received a
postcard saying that none of my purchases were entitled for a Rebate.

I was extremely frustrated and even more after reading the posts on
the internet which is why I sent out an email to all the email
addresses I could find on the pepboys website.

'investorrelations@pepboys.com'; 'mediarelations@pepboys.com';
'Norman_Katz@pepboys.com'; 'bill_wekluk@pepboys.com';
'Webmaster@PepBoys.com'; 'peter_robinson@pepboys.com';
'mediarelations@pepboys.com'; 'investorrelations@pepboys.com';
'custserv@pepboys.com'

And to my astonishment I must say that a person from Pepboys called me
up, apologized for the inconvenience caused and mailed me a $25 gift
voucher for the inconvenience.

I must say that I am very very happy with this gesture at pepboys, and
I think all of you should send an email to folks at pepboys asking for
their help in the rebates which you are facing a problem.

Regards
Veneet

TRY HECK they are doing it!!! I submitted a rebate after buying 16
Champion spark plus and the rebate was for $1.50 per plug making the
rebate a total of $24.00. I kept a copy of the entire transaction and
on the rebate it stated it COULD take up to 10 weeks to get the rebate
back to me! So the 10 week period came and gone and a couple more
weeks lapsed making a total of 3 months and still no rebate. I started
calling PEPBOYS REBATE CVENTER and what a circle jerk run around I
got! They sure train their employees to appease the customers when
they didn't get the rebate. After TRYING to make them aware of what
had happened then the employee told me THEY DIDN'T HANDLE thos REBATES
and gave me another phone number. Well I called the second one and the
same crap came out of the employee's mouth and they referred me to
ANOTHER PEPBOYS REBATE CENTER. ALL TOTAL I called 6 different rebate
centers and got the same answer saying they DIDN'T handle the rebates
for the Champion rebate center and when I asked who did they didn't
have an answewr! I kept track of every phone number I called and the
name of the employee that answered the phone on PepBoys behalf. Out of
being so MAD over the whole thing I finally decided to contact the
PepBoys store where I made the purchase three months ago to see what
they could do for me!! What a CIRCLE JERK that turned out to be as the
so called manager started calling each of the rebate centers that I
had listed as the ones I called and even he got the run around.
FINALLY the manager said he would contact the manager of the store and
see if he couldn't come up with a solouation to solve this problem!
WELL I stood out in the lobby for what seemed like a lifetime before
the manager came back and said his boss said they couldn't help me as
it was a CHAMPION problem! I then asked how come each time in the past
when I got a rebate it ALWAYS CAME FROM PEPBOYS and NOT the
manufacture of the item I bought!! Well there came a BLANK STARE over
the employee's face and he asked me would I SETTLE for $14.00 and that
was as high as he was allowed to go! Well I figured $14.00 would be
better then a poke in the eye so I said OK! NOW comes the fun!!! This
so called MANAGER said he would give me a REFUND CREDIT CARD and I
agreed! He started to TRY and figure out just how he was suppoed to
get this refund card completed. He tried and tried to get the register
to print out the refund on the card TO NO AVAIL!! WELL NEEDLESS to say
by this time I was fit to be tied and said IS THERE SOMEONE IN THIS
OUTFIT that knows how to operate this machine? And I then said I AM
FED UP WITH THIS WHOLE MATTER AND HEY NEVER HAVE TO WORRY BOUT ME EVER
DOING BUSINESS WITH PEPBOYS AGAIN!!! One thig which I failed to do
from the beginning was to register the mail I sent PepBoys so I could
get proof they received the rebate request!!! SOOOO LESSON learned if
you EVER send off another rebate request be SURE and send it
registered mail!!! Well I have vented my frustrations and feel a
little better BUT NOT TOO MUCH!!! SOOOO SIGNING OFF and will try and
let my bloodpressure settle down!!!

I also had a problem with my Pep Boys Rebate. I purchased my tires
expecting to get my rebate. I filled out and mailed my forms the same
day I got my tires. This was March 25, 2008. I am still waiting to
receive my rebate money. I have had to submit my forms three times
now. I have contacted the Better Business Bureau. I also wrote letters
to both Pep Boys and Hankook Tires. I posted my letters and the
addresses of both companies, I encourage everyone to send a letter as
well. Maybe all of us together can make a difference.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing in regards to the Hankook/Definity Tire Offer given by
Pep Boys in March and April 2008. I went to Pep Boys and purchased
tires on March 25, 2008. I immediately came back and sent out the
information for the rebate, expecting to receive a rebate for the
amount of one tire. I have yet to receive my rebate offer.

When I called to find out about it, they told me to resubmit the
information. I did so and yet again, received no rebate. I have
submitted my information a third time and have yet to hear anything to
date.

I have contacted the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint
against your company. What I cannot understand, though, is how your
company can advertise such a deal, and then have no problem fooling
your customers. I feel that you had absolutely no intention of sending
my rebate money back to me. It's a pretty good deal for your company
because what am I going to do, return my used tires because I didn't
get my rebate money?

I find it atrocious that your company has pulled me around like this
and if I do not receive a response and my rebate money within fourteen
days, you will be hearing from my attorney, and I will pursue this
matter to the fullest extent of the law.

I trust I will be hearing from you soon.

September 17, 2008

To Whom It May Concern,

In March of this year, I purchased four tires from the Pep Boys store
on Marin Blvd. in Jersey City, New Jersey. I made this purchase wit
the thought that I would receive the rebate offer for the free tire
and I would get four tires for the price of three. So I made my
purchase and immediately came back and filled out my paper work and
sent in my rebate offer to Hankook Tires.

It is now, September and I have yet to receive my rebate, in fact, I
have yet to receive anything, including customer service or answers
from this company. While I do realize that your company does not
actually produce the rebates, I feel that you do, in fact, play a key
role in the rebate process.

As the company who does the labor and works with the customers who are
expecting to receive the rebates, you have a duty to us. When
customers tell you that they have not received the rebates, your
company should contact Hankook Tires and find out exactly what is
going on. Maybe your company should stand behind it's customers and
ensure that the rebates you offer are being fulfilled. In the end,
your company is going to lose out.

Again, I understand you do not produce the rebates. I do, however,
find you responsible for part of the problem and hope that you will
take your responsibility seriously. I feel that you need to know what
is going on with your vendors. I also understand that I am not your
only customer to have this problem. Just type Pep Boys Tire Rebates
into your search bar and see how many people have this same problem. I
assume that your company did not know what was going on, or proper
action would be taken. Therefore, please consider this notification.

I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in regards to
this horrendous mess. I have also contact my attorney and will be
pursuing this false advertisement to the fullest extent of the law. I
am sure that I will have the proper support from your company.

I sent out rebate form in Jan.
In march, I saw on the webpage, the
rebate check ($20) was mailed and cashed.
But I didn't receive the rebate check at all.
I emailed to inquire about it and was
asked to print out an email and mail
it to an address to get a photocopy
of the cashed check. It is said I have
to wait for 4-6 weeks. I mailed it out in
mid April, but didn't receive anything
till now (over 2 months). I emailed
and called to ask if they received it
or not, but was told that they DO NOT HAVE
ANY INFORMATION ON THAT. Even the manager
told me the same thing and asked me
to print out their email and resubmit
the request again.

Of course, I know I can submit request
multiple times, but how come they don't have
any information about whether they received
my mail or not (did they dump mails?).

I told the manager I really cannot see the point to
mail them the photocopy of the mail again and
wait for another 4-6 weeks.
when I already called and emailed them saying
that i didn't receive the check. Why can
they just print out the email and request that
for me? The manager told me "He doesn't know
either" and asked me to call Pepboys' customer
service number (1800-737-2697) for help on that.
I called that number and the representative told
me they have nothing to do with the rebate and
told me the rebate center manager I called and
emailed should have all the information and
decide how to proceed everything. She also
refused to help me file any complaint about
that rebate company, insisting that pepboys
customer service HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH REBATE
ISSUES (that means they got lots of problems
and refuse to handle them).

So it's very clear that the rebate company
tries to avoid responsiblity. Their manager
even refer you to the wrong phone number when
he is the one that should have all informaiton
and be in charge of it. And pepboys company
doesn't want to listen to customers for issues
about it either.

Be aware that web-rebates.com that pepboys is using tends to screw up
your rebates. For pepboys January rebates, I purchased only two items
but they missed one item amount even though the rebate form requires
that you have to put total rebate amount there. After talking to a rep
and he promised me to correct it. 2 days later, still nothing
happened. After I requested 2 times(one time, I was disconnected after
insisting to talk to a manager) to talk to a manager, finally the
other rep agreed to correct the amount without going through the
manager. Be Warned.

I have submitted rebates to pep boys for teh past four months and each
time they send a check for less than the amount I'm supposed to get. I
have to contact them each time, and they do end up paying the proper
amount. With the "reduced rebate" happening every time I send one in,
I have to conclude it's intentional and a scam. They probably hope
people don't check the amount to verify it's correct. If you plan to
deal with pep boys rebates, keep copies of all your paperwork and pan
on having to follow up. I've dealt with a lot of rebate companies, and
they are by far the worst.

I try their rebate several times, following the steps very carefully
every time, but every time they shorted me some amount, so I have to
call them every time, they credited me the shorted amount everytime,
it seems they try to cheat you out of some money every chance they
get, if you don't question it, they will get away with it. A very
sleezy outfit.

I am going thru the same run around with Pep Boys. I have a total of
$200.00 more than what they say I have coming. I have called several
times, only to be disconnected when I asked for a supervisior. On the
third day, I finally got thru to a Jerry Williams ID#171176331 and he
told me to fax over a copy of my receits, which I did. I have not got
a response back from him or anyone else at Pep Boys. He had told me
after I asked him how long it would take for me to get my check, he
said it would be a couple of months! I then went to the store that I
deal at and one of the people that works there called the rebate
office and tried to help me. He was trying his best, but the main
office gave him the run around also. I am going to pursue this matter
to the fullest. I will get in touch with the Department of Consumer
Affairs in my state, Georgia, and have them contact Pep Boys. This has
been going on for a couple of months now, so it is about time
something happened to straighten out the people at Pep Boys main
office.

Well, I guess I'm not alone in this rediculous pepboys scam!!! I sent
in two rebate requests last month and was rejected for both. Of
course, when I called they assured me that they would indeed mail my
rebates. Hmm... sounds a bit fishy. As of now, they have allegedly
sent one check to the wrong address, the other is still apparently in
non-compliance. I, for one, will NEVER shop pepboys again. I think
there are more than enough complaints about this to start a class
action lawsuit. Of couse, this will require someone who is willing to
invest the time. Sorry all, I am not that someone.

APPARENTLY THIS IS HAPPENING A LOT, i PURCHSASE TIRES BACK IN MARCH
THIS YEARS AND SEND MY REBATE RIGHT AWAY, i RECEIVED A CHECK BUT ONLY
TO FIND OUT THAT THEY HAD SPELLED MY LAST NAME WRONG SO WENT I TOOK IT
TO THE BANK THEY WOULDN'T HONORED, SO CALLED THEM AND EXPLAINED THE
SITUATION, AND THEY SAY THAT THEY WERE GOING TO ISSUE ANOTHER CHECK
AND IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 4 WEEKS, THAT WAS BAK IN MAY 19, 2007, i AM
STILL WAITING FOR THE CHECK. WHEN I CALLED TO ASK ABOUT THE CHECK
THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD RECIEVED THE CHECK RETURNED AND THEY WERE
GOING TO ISSUED ANOTHER CHECK (WHICH IT SOUNDS REALLY STUPID SINCE I
GOT MY FIRST CHECK) SINCE THEN I HAVE CALLED AT LEAST 4 OTHER TIMES,
EVERYTIME I SPEAK WITH SOMEONE DIFFERENT, BUT THE RESPONSE IS THE
SAME, "YOUR CHECK SHOULD ARRIVE WITHIN 4-6 WEEKS"

I got that card for the July 2007 rebates. It was for a Garmin C330
Series Navigation system w/$50 rebate. The cashier/clerk actually
filled out the form and stapled the receipt to it. All I had to do was
fill out my name and address and mail it. I had a weird feeling about
it and decided to photocopy EVERYTHING, including sending it
"certified mail." Their response was that there was no rebate for that
particular item, yet the receipt verified the rebate, and with that,
I'm returning it to Pep Boys for them to solve the problem or the
system will be returned.
I'm not one for getting rip-off off easily so I'm reporting this to
the BBB, consumer agencies and other agencies. A little more effort
goes a long way.
Note: Funny how they kept my rebate form including the receipt and
only returned the rejection card. They think I won't have any proof.

4 out of 5 my PepBoys rebates were denied and I have to call eveytime
to get it corrected (except the 1st one - which I forgot to call back
again until it expired - took too much calls(4) to get the Quaker
State synthetic oil QTorque fiasco, no end in sight so I decideed not
ot waste my time calling anymore -$15 gone.

Seems like I've been preselected as denied list from then on.

It took 4 follow up calls to get my $50 rebate on the 10x8 Duramamax
shed.
However, the $6.50 rebate on Valvoline 5W20 oil was non-issue.

Pepboys rebate program is a scam (especially big $ amount >$10).. it
relies on the customer to follow up tirelessly to get their rebate.

You've been warned.

I just purchase tires and it came with a rebate. I sent it on time. As
time went on I decided to check the status and called in. They ask for
your information such as mailing address and your name. I finally was
given a mailing date 04/16/07. A week passed by and I called in I was
told that it should be in anytime. Another week past and another.
Finally I called again on 05/09/07 and they explained that the check
had been returned and destoried. The reason was the envelope was
missing the street address. I had asked how long have they know it was
returned, they could not find that info. But they know that it will
take another 4 weeks to reissue another check. As of today 05/23/07 I
see the check is still processing. Each time I've spoken with a
supervisor they can't tell me anything but the time frame it will take
to receive a new check. I want to be compensated for my time, pepboys
earn interest the longer the keep our rebate money.

I know that it can be fustrating but all you have to do is call the
number at the bottom of the card, and ask them to resubmitt it and it
will be sent to you in 7 to ten days. I have called this number and
found that I get my money faster that way.

I just received the same postcard. Is 1-888-829-1420 the phone number
you used to contact Pep Boys? I have called this number twice and
both times I was on hold for about 10 minutes only to get a message
saying they are "updating their systems and to call back later." I am
frustrated and just want to make sure I am calling the correct number.
Thanks.

My Dad got the exact same postcard and when he tried to straighten it
out with Pep boys, got the runaround. Put on hold, told to call back,
etc. They suck. This has happened before. They lure you in with great
deals, then either don't have the products on hand, or you get screwed
with the rebates. If my Dad ever mentions going there again, I will
remind him of the rebate fiasco. Never shop at Pep Boys again. The
people who work there are clueless too. Grrrrr.

I'm having the exact same problem with the Pep Boys March 2006 rebate.
I submitted three separate and legitimate rebates, and all three came
back with the same comment: "The item(s) listed on your receipt do not
qualify for any of the March rebate offers". Looks like Pep Boys
doesn't want to cough up the big money on the Purolator Premium Plus
Oil Filters at $1.98 rebate each. What a rip-off!
If Pep Boys can't afford paying the rebates, then they shouldn't offer
them at all. This is an obvious scam by Pep Boys!!! Beware!!!

I am surprised! Pep Boys just sent me an e-mail telling me they fixed
the issues with the last 2 rebates.

I hope I don't have to contact them in the future for rebates. It
might be a while before I dare to buy anything with rebates from them
though.
