Calling companies directly

Posted Mon August 21, 2006 12:48 pm, by Fran S. written to PlanetFeedback Forums

Write a Letter to this Company

Here's a letter to the Planetfeedback community - I know that Planetfeedback provides a wonderful service but sometimes you can save time by calling the company directly.

I have a ViewSonic monitor that is about 10 months old - still under warranty. I called the company because I am having problems with it, and within 5 minutes they sent me a form to fax back - they will send me a new monitor, and when I receive it, I need to return the old one. Simple - I was polite, the technician was polite and I got exactly what I needed.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't use PlanetFeedback - just suggesting that a simple call to the company can be faster and give you the results you want.

You are absolutely right that people should try to solve their own
problems by dealing with companies directly before posting a letter on
PFB. And in some instances, PFB isn't even the proper forum for their
issue. And if they have already called a company and are told the
answer to their request is "no", then it most likely will still be the
same no matter how many letters they post. I think of PFB as a place
to post letters about issues that will be of interest to others and
serve as a warning of the way a company does business.

Good letter and I agree completely.

Great post! And I think for many things, PFB should be a last resort,
not the first thing a person does when they're dissatisfied with a
product or service. I'm glad you're getting a new monitor!

I totally agree! PFB is a great tool for getting in touch with
companies when other resources are exhausted. It is also a great way
to make sure your point is made with the corporate "powers that be,"
or to alert them to problems with their policies. You are so right,
though, that often letters are written about problems that businesses
are perfectly willing to fix, and fix quickly, if you just make a call
or ask for a manager at the time.

Thanks for sharing this story, and for illustrating that sometimes,
companies do want to help. They just have to be asked!
