People who represent PFB Community

Posted Thu September 3, 2009 2:08 pm, by Julie H. written to PlanetFeedback

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

I am writing this letter as a long-time (pretty much) silent observer of this website. As you can see from my profile, I have written a few letters and made only a small handful of comments on letters. I primarily use this website as something to browse through and pass the time, usually during slow times at work.

With that being said, I know that there have been a lot of changes lately regarding TOS, Kitchen Table, and most recently blog moderation. While I understand there has been a lot of differing opinions on these subjects, they do not have an effect on me and that is not why I am writing.

More recently, I have been drawn to the blogs because there seems to be a lot of activity among a handful of members on the blogs. And while I am neutral on the subject of the blogs being moderated, I am pretty disgusted by the behavior and comments of a member that has been chosen to represent PFB and help improve the site.

I honestly have no idea what the fighting is over. From what I can gather, it appears people have formed "teams" and there is a lot of argument over site moderation and people getting suspended/banned from PFB. However, someone who is supposed to set an example and help improve the site is out there insulting other people, making public accusations, and going so far as to insult someone's employment status. I do not know any of these people personally, but I found myself reading through hundreds of comments on blogs and I walked away with a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

As I said, if you feel the need to moderate blogs, that is perfectly OK with me. However, as a company, I think that you need to re-examine the people you are picking to represent yourselves. There was another letter on PFB recently and although I can't find it, it had something to do with the behavior of a company's employees on blogs outside of work and it reminded me of this situation. And while these people are simply volunteers for PFB, I still think you need to take a closer look at whether or not they are the people you want to represent this community as a whole.

As a side note, I want to stress that I have NEVER contacted anyone outside of PFB, I am not anyone's pal...I am simply writing this letter as a third party observer.

How Weird. Why does this page now appear as if it's from a blog
instead of a letter? It says Shared Letters on the top, but the rest
of the page looks like a blog.

Is it haunted?

I think Planet Feedback's credibility as a professionally run,
impartial third party mediation service for consumers has been
severely damaged by recent actions of staff/moderators. I used to work
for a major online retailer in the corporate office, and answering the
letters we received through PF was one of my responsibilities. At the
time, we approached PF intervention in the same manner we dealt with
the Better Business Bureau and other mediators. However, in recent
months PF has disintegrated and now reminds me of a blog run by 15
year olds, with the Mean Girls cliquishness and bullying.

I'm still in touch with members of senior management at my old
company, and I recently had a conversation with my former boss about
this site. They're still answering PF letters, but she herself has not
been on the site lately. She was surprised to hear my description of
what PF has become, and is going to review the site herself and
discuss with some other members of senior management. A decision will
be made then as to whether the company will respond to PF letters
going forward, or whether PF will be dropped as a credible contact for
the company. Which isn't good news for frustrated consumers trying to
resolve their problems with the help of PF, nor for PF's reputation as
a reliable source for getting resolutions for consumers.

Seems like PF is just shooting themselves in the foot with all the
drama they're stirring up.

I could have written this letter myself.

I also have written a few letters here and don't post often but I do
read the letters here almost daily. I keep up with all the latest
drama by reading the blogs. I do not communicate with anyone on this
site, and I am not anyone but me.
I am not what you would call a regular and I don't have a dog in this
fight.

I have noticed the PFB representative that you speak of and I feel the
same way. I think that this particular person represents PFB so poorly
and some of their comments have been so disgusting and unprofessional
that I am surprised something has not been done about them.

I agreed with the 6 strike rule. Why wouldn't I? I don't think I make
inappropriate comments. I didn't disagree with the kitchen table. It's
not that i thought it was a good idea, but I don't think it was a bad
one. I also felt that there were regulars that would be rude and bully
other posters/letter writers and I appreciated admin stepping in. This
PFB rep though is a serious turnoff.

Having employees/volunteers like this is not going to be good for this
site.

very good letter - especially this part: "However, someone who is
supposed to set an example and help improve the site is out there
insulting other people, making public accusations, and going so far as
to insult someone's employment status." Well said.

I think it was a letter to Verizon Wireless you are thinking about.
