Great First Impression at Portrait Innovations!
Posted Wed April 16, 2008 12:00 pm, by MA C. written to Portrait Innovations
On April 12th, I took my sons to get their pictures taken together. With the closing of the Picture People locations near me, I was unfamiliar with any other photography studios and knew nothing about Portrait Innovation. I was apprehensive, but liked what I saw on the website about their stores.
The first thing that impressed me was that they called the day before to confirm the appointment. I never had a studio do that and it was a nice touch.
Our appointment was for 11:45 a.m and we arrived about 15 minutes early. When we walked in, the place was PACKED! We were told there would be about a 20-30 minute wait. That wasn't great and there was nothing to entertain my sons and not enough seats so there were many people standing around. But there were several staff all busily working at the various stations (taking the pictures, reviewing the pictures, printing the pictures and cashing out) and they were getting people taken care of pretty quickly.
By the time we finally got in, I was worried because my youngest was a little cranky from the wait and I really didn't want his first professional pictures to be tear-filled.
No worries! Our photographer (who I think was named Megan) was AMAZING. She had both my boys smiling and laughing the whole time and had a great sense for exactly what kind of pictures we were going for. In just 15 minutes, she shot off 99 pictures of them!
Then came the hard part - trying to decide which ones were our favorite! We could barely cut it down to 45, let alone the 4 we wound up with. They were ALL so great!
We spent a little more than we had planned on (we originally we going to get the $9.95 special) but it was well worth it not only for the number of pictures we got, but for the fact that we got a CD Rom with every picture she took - which was great because then we didn't have to feel guilty about not choosing so many of the other great pictures she took!
While I wish it hadn't been so crowded during the wait, I understand that walk-ins and late shows might have had a lot to do with that, but the end result of these beautiful pictures was absolutely worth it.
We have gotten SO many compliments not only on how gorgeous the pictures were, but what a great value for the money and how quickly we got them back. I know you have at least 3 people who are looking into taking their children or grandchildren to Portrait Innovations because of our experience.
Thank you for the wonderful pictures and the super staff. It was a great first impression.

I just wanted to add a little reply to your message. I work at PI. We all try very hard to make it the best experience ever and sometimes since we have to book all of our appointments 15 minutes apart and double book most of the slots it is VERY easy to get behind. It helps us out A LOT when the customers understand this and don't get impatient with us. Which I know is easy to do. Also, we work on average. If we don't maintain a certain dollar amount average we can lose our job. So it is very important to us to sell the biggest package possible to every customer. We don't work on commission or anything so that isn't what we work so hard for. It is really hard for us when each customer comes in with their minds set to buy only the $9.95 package because that means we have to work twice as hard on the next few appointments to secure our position with the company. So I guess what I am saying is when you come in, expect the best experience that we can possibly give you. And keep expecting beautiful portraits because our job depends on it!

I love this letter. First Impressions mean very little if the staff and follow up aren't there. Hearing they did all this while at a busy time shows their final product is worth it. Photos are a big deal, and getting professional results, good service, and reasonable prices are important. It's nice to hear companies like this exist.
Our family once had a problem with a company called "KinderPhoto", so I know from experience how horrible it is when first impressions don't mean a thing. The store was clean, attractively lit, and had beautiful portraits to showcase their work.
I'm not even sure they're still in business, but it took four months to get what they paid for, two months past Christmas, which was the idea of the photos in the first place. They ended up settling for about three quarters of what they paid, and the check bounced twice.
The end results were a disaster and an expensive lesson learned. They were able to salvage some of the proof photos, only with the help of someone with a full version of Photo Shop, but the quality and service. Honestly, anyone with a point and shoot camera could have taken better quality photos.

My apologies for the double letter here - The site timed out half way through composing the letter and made me enter everything in again, but I didn't realize it had appended the original message twice!
This is when that magic "Edit" button would really come in handy!
