Totally Unacceptable Service

Posted Thu April 5, 2012 8:14 pm, by Sonja H. written to Pretty Pets

This is a pet groomer. I made an appointment to get my cat groomed by Marilyn, the owner. The appointment was for 1:00pm - I was told it would take about 4 hours. At 4:30 I called and was told the cat should be ready by 5:30. At 5:20 I walked into the location - I was told by the girl at the desk that the cat would not be ready until 6:30 or 7:00pm. I told her if they hadn't started grooming my cat to forget it - just give me the cat. She specifically said Marilyn had started grooming the cat - but I knew that was a lie because I could see in the back and Marilyn was grooming a dog. The owner came out - she admitted she hadn't started grooming my cat and she was rude. I left with my ungroomed cat who had been sitting in her carrier for over 4 1/2 hours in her urine and feces.

They shouldn't even be in business if they think its okay to keep a cat contained in a small travrel carrier all those hours. I hope consumers who read this website NEVER take their pet to this place.

It's a good idea to avoid ALL groomers that you cannot sit and monitor
your pet with.

I've worked in several kennels - that also doubled as grooming
locations - in the past.

At each firm, I can recall the groomers getting nasty with the pets
they were trusted to safeguard. I can recall seeing groomers use
leashes as whips, striking animals (slapping, etc.), tormenting them
while they were in cages or carriers, and screaming/yelling at the
pets.

I would NEVER leave my pet with a groomer unattended.

I also would NEVER board my pet at a kennel. Better to find a trusted
neighbor or a friend who can watch your pet when you travel (let them
stay at your house/apt. if necessary).

Cats and dogs can survive quite easily in a carrier for 4.5 hours.

You SHOULD provide them a carrier large enough for them to stand up
and turn around in however.

I know cos we have to put our dog in a carrier when we go out.
Otherwise she'll mostly behave ... except sometimes she attacks the
blinds.

Poor kitty! I feel bad her her. I am sure she was scared which is why
she soiled her carrier.

I have never felt the need to take any of my cats to a groomer. That
is one of the benefits of having a cat - they are self-grooming. If
your cat isn't grooming herself properly, she is probably sick and
needs a visit to the vet, not a groomer.

Or if it's a longhair cat... by RedheadwGlasses Fri April 6, 2012 @ 10:31 PM

You may not see the need but that doesn't mean others shouldn't use them by PepperElf Tue April 10, 2012 @ 3:22 PM

Wow, unless your cat has medical problems or was totally freaked out
by being inthat place (smells and sounds), it should be able to hold
its bowels and bladder much longer than that.

But regardless of that... they do sound awful and if their schedule
got behind, they should have called you to pick up your cat and to
reschedule her.
