Crest Pro-Health turns teeth brown!

Posted Wed August 8, 2012 12:40 pm, by Joni K. written to Procter & Gamble

Crest Pro-Health mouth rinse contains Cetylpyridinium chloride, which causes teeth to turn brown. There is no warning on the product label. Professional teeth whitening does not remove the stains. I will need to have the buffed repeatedly at my dentist's office. This will be costly. I am devastated that my teeth look like those of a pirate!

Pay for my dental cleaning. As many cleanings as are required to bring my teeth back to their original color.

You might want to think about checking a little on treatments? From
what I read, the stains shouldn't require repeated buffings, and I'm
wondering how that might affect your teeth. I used a rinse that the
dentist told me might turn my teeth brown, but it was easy to clean
off if it did.

did your teeth ACTUALLY turn brown, or did you read this somewhere and
are now ASSUMING that your teeth will turn.

I also wonder if you got your dentist's opinion before purchasing this
product. I know it's not required, but sometimes people have specific
dental issues that it might be wise to check with them before you try
any new products that might be problematic.

the ingredient Cetylpyridinium chloride does have the RARE (very rare)
side effect of causing brown spots on teeth - however - so do several
medications. Food also does this. The brown spots from the
Cetylpyridinium chloride are due to a reaction from foods and drinks
(such as cola or coffee) and are supposed to fade on their own and
only be short lived.
