No Complimentary Dessert?

I have been going to Red Lobster for birthdays for almost 40 years, beginning in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and now (since 1984) in Tucson, AZ... We have always received a complimentary dessert when they are informed there's a birthday. On January 12, 2009, my wife and I went to our local Red Lobster in Tucson to celebrate my 69th birthday. I had shrimp & lobster, which was delicious. When I informed the waitress that it was my birthday, she asked what I would like for dessert. I ordered chocolate cake w/ice cream, which was also delicious. When we got our bill, we had been charged for the dessert. We were somewhat surprised but went ahead and paid the bill without complaining. Now I am wondering if Red Lobster has changed their policy regarding FREE complimentary desserts (boo); or if the waitress was just negligent in charging for the dessert.
Not so Happy 69th Birthday in Tucson... :(
I would like a Red Lobster Gift Card... :)

I agree, there are too many scammers that will do anythings for a free dessert.
I have customers at my unit, that will pull markdown stickers off one product and put it on another. I have to direct my staff to not only sticker it, but put a wide piece of tape over each markdown label, because a portion of people are dishonest.
Then you get the people that stuff unwrapped steaks and shrimp down the front of their pants.....
It sounds like they have a new online approach to your birthday. You seem to be tech savvy so go to their website and sign up.
Good Day

i work at an rl. we no longer offer free dessert on birthdays. i'm not sure what the reason is, but i've seen quite a few people who are in groups of four or so come in two or three times a month. guess what? it's always their birthday. we also no longer sing our stupid birthday song (thank GOD!) but offer to sing happy birthday with only three servers and the guests have to sing along. all i know is it's a corporate decision and you should go to the website and send an email. customer feedback is apparently important to our corporate so i wouldn't be surprised if they mailed you some coupons.

You could have simply brought it to the server's attention, in a nice way, and that would have answered the question. "Excuse me, miss, but have you stopped the complimentary desserts on birthdays?"
This may have been a misunderstanding, the policy may have changed, etc. I never quite understood giving free desserts to adults.

Why couldn't you speak up when you got the bill, to question it? I bet they would have taken it off for you. I sure don't think you should get a gift card if you coudln't even raise the issue then and there after going there for 40 years.

According to their website, it looks like you have to sign up for their birthday club to get anything for your birthday.
