HELP they shrunk my lobtster! After seeing tons of commercials for LOBSTER FEST finally went only to find out they have shrunk the Maine Lobster tail to a measly 3 oz! When I said to the waitress -"this is the smallest Lobster Tail I've ever gotten here!" She apologized and sent over the floor manager. She also apologized and said they have started using a smaller lobster tail and several customers have complained. How can they spend millions on advertsing LOBSTER FEST and then shrink the food. I used to love going there for the lobster - but no more! I will not return!

Go back to larger size. For the price 3 oz is a rippoff. What idiots to spend milllions on advertising only to have LESS quantity during special. Fire whatever genius shrunk the lobster tail!!!

Sue,

Visualize with me for a second... The ocean is a vast place. Deep,
wide. Also think for a minute about how many maine lobsters actually
live in the ocean. Now, think about how many customers go to Red
Lobsters across the country every day and, while you have that in
mind, think about how many other restaurants serve lobster. As a
kichen employee of Red Lobster, i can tell you that thousands of
people eat thousands of Maine lobster tails every day.

The reason your Maine tail was so small was because we are fishing out
our oceans, as big as they may seem to be. RL can't sell certain types
of fish... because we have killed them all. Our oceans, and the
creatures we eat from them, believe it or not, is a limited resource.

Yep, we'd love to go back to a larger size... if they existed in
enough quantities for us to sell. Remember that lobsters aren't
potatoes, or celery sticks. That 3oz Maine tail you snubbed had to
live for 4 years to get that big.

So if we keep eating them faster then they can grow, how can they
possibly get bigger?

Ever checked the price of lobster lately? Just this past week I ate
at Morton's and lobster was $27.95 a POUND. The majority of them in
the tank weighed in at 2-1/2 to 3 pounds. Kind of rich for my blood.
Since I really don't care for it anyway, I stuck with my usual Filet
Mignon.

I have noticed that as the prices at RL went up, the portions got
smaller as well. I was a server for RL in the mid-90's and back then,
the Ultimate Feast, was ultimate. The other day, I ordered the
Ultimate Feast and it looked more like something that was one step
above an appetizer.

Oh, and by the way.. they certainly are NOT going to fire the "genius"
that shrunk it. grow up and act your age.

Dont eat at Red Lobster! They buy their seafood from the Canadian
fisherman that club the baby seals for their pelts.

I don't see a problem with this letter. I see the humour mixed in with
what is a legit complaint. Some people have written outright mean
letters here at PF demanding someone be fired for not double-bagging
their eggs or whatever but I don't think this person literally means
someone should be fired. They are just trying to make a point. If RL
reads the letters it receives from PF, I feel confident they will read
this one and take into consideration.

BTW: I abandoned RL years ago... like in the early 90's, due to
shrinking portion sizes....I'm not a big eater and I almost always
take home part of my meal in a "doggie bag" for next day's lunch, but
RL really reduced their portion sizes sometime in the early 90's....

Venice is absolutely right about that. You're writing a business
letter, and are supposed to be sounding professional. It's completely
understandable to feel the way you do, with all the emotions and such.
However, there are times when you need to bite your tongue and keep
that side from coming out.

It's good to let them know the way you feel, however, words like
'idiots', 'genius' and'fire' might turn your letter into trash.

Nevertheless, it's still lobster. Candy bars and fast-food hamburgers
seem to have shrunk, too, but the price certainly hasn't.
