Does Customer Service Exist?

On July 1, 2006. My sister and I visited Red Lobster in Sarasota FL to take our mother and father out to eat. We arrived at opening time and were seated. Our waiter arrived at the table about 15 minutes later to take our drink orders and said he would be right back to take our order. We sat for another 20 minutes with no drinks and could see that our waiter was standing in the drink station laughing and visiting with a co-worker. Finally the drinks arrive and we place our order, being very specific as to the dietary needs of my mother and father who age 70 and 73. The waiter left and did not return to the table for another 25 minutes as we sat with empty tea glasses, one other waitress walked by our table and I asked her to refill them, she replied that she would get our waiter. We were the only table seated in our waiters section and we were totally ignored by him and all other wait staff. It was a total of 55 minutes from the time we sat down till our food arrived, which was not prepared as we ordered it and then we were ingnored again by all wait staff untill the bill was brought to the table about 30 minutes later. We asked for a manager who did not come out to speak with us, so we eventually paid this bill of $65.00 and left the restaurant. By the way we were the only table seated in this waiters section for the first 40 minutes of our visit to this Red Lobster.
I think that Red Lobster should refund at least a large potion of the bill that we paid and train their wait staff to treat there customers with more care.

Contact the store manager and explain what happened. They almost always refund the meals!
They weren't very happy when David Letterman went on his show and had a complaint and they offered to pay for his meal. Actually, it is true, they will usually offer to pay for one or all of the meals.

I tend to disagree when people come on here asking for free meals/money back, but I think your complaint is one that definitely warrants a refund, Lewis. It sounds like the staff was just rude to you for no reason, especially your waiter and the manager. There was no reason you should have had to wait that long for drinks and food, especially if you were the only table in your waiter's section and if he had time to chat with co-workers. I also can't believe no manager bothered to come out when you asked for one. Good luck!

I can not tell from the letter if you are from Florida or were just visiting. While I do agree that the CS was lacking, I have also found that resturants in Fl tend to be slow. I am from NJ originally and even after living in the Sarasota area for almost two years I still go nuts with impatience almost everytime I am eating out. There is a very laid back way of thinking here and most places tend to not rush and it can be annoying, especially if you are from out of town. Just my two cents.

I would highly recommend calling the corporate number that Red Lobster had on their website.
Only once did I have a horrible experience in which the manager refused to acknowledge that anything wrong had happened (I'm allergic to crab and they tried to serve me crab on a platter with shrimp). My complaint was forwarded to the president of the company who was very apologetic over the whole incident.
He even went as far as sending me gift certificates. No I didn't ask for them nor did he mention sending them to me. They arrived a week after speaking with him.
The bottom line is, they do care. Sometimes you have to be a bit more proactive in order to get results.

This is a good letter. I feel bad for all of you, especially your parents. It was obviously a treat for you and your sister to take them out.
I hope you didn't leave a tip.
How long did you wait for the manager? I think it would have been a good idea to ask for him again. If he still didn't come out then you probably should have asked for the district managers' name and phone number or address.
It's a shame for your parents that you had this problem.

Your complaint should have been directed to the manager on duty at the time. Emailing corporate headquarters likely won't have much effect.
You're a patsy for putting up with such lousy service and yet not having the nerve to ask for the manager, who likely would have comped most of your meal.
