Unhappy with fees and e-mail customer service

Write a Letter to this Company
I have been a customer of Roslyn Savings Bank from back when it was Columbia Federal Savings. I've had my ups and downs with you but mostly ups and nothing that would have made me consider changing banks..until now.
I've resisted getting a debit card for a long time preferring to use cash however now that I'm out of work on disability, I'm not close to a branch so I decided to bite the bullet and get one.
I explained to the teller exactly why I wanted one. I wanted to avoid ATM fees when I use the ATM at my supermarket or 7-11. She told me a debit card was exactly what I needed.
Imagine my suprise when I logged into my account and discovered I was charged $1.50 for each debit transaction because I used a PIN. The teller never explained the difference to me nor did I receive a schedule of fees.
I sent an inquiry through the website and received a canned response with a list of fees. I replied and asked what I could do to avoid those fees and received another canned response to use it as a credit card. When I asked if those funds would be deducted from my checking account immediately (which is what i want), I received another reply to call customer service.
My disability at this time involves my hands and holding the phone is difficult for me. Typing is hard enough but holding the phone is very painful.
I would like my questions answered via e-mail. If that can't be done or these fees can't be eliminated, I will move my account to Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Not only do they not charge for a debit/PIN transaction but they have a branch in my supermarket, King Kullen. I've resisted moving to them because of my long relationship with you but this experience has made me rethink that choice.

Treat it as a credit card when you shop at the market(assuming it's a visa/mastercard debit card (- no PIN, no fee

Sounds like you need to find another bank, too many banks refund ATM fees for any ATM used
good day

I apologize for being slow, but a savings & loan is basically the same as a credit union right? My credit union also charges $1.50 for ATM transactions so I always opt for a credit card transaction whenever possible. I absolutely agree that the teller should of informed you upfront about the ATM fee--I know that its impossible for tellers to explain ALL the fee's involved but they should at least be required to disclose the ATM fee upfront.
As far the transactions showing up on your account balance right away, with my credit union, when I log into my account, there are 2 figures given, "balance" and "available balance". Transactions don't always show up right away (depends on the merchant) but the amount is always reflected in my "available balance", if that makes sense. Basically the system knows there is pending transactions and it is reflected in my available balance but the transaction doesn't show on my account history yet. Also, the "balance" figure doesn't reflected any pending transactions so I never go by balance, always available balance. I guess the best thing to do in your case is contact customer service because not all credit unions are the same.
