I wouldn't be surprised if this program is discontinued in the near future with the war going on along with the economic downturn.

Too bad my brother doesn't work for Sears. He's an Army reservist and is being deployed to Afghanistan in January 2009. When he comes back, he will definitely be out of a job as his company is facing massive layoffs and perhaps won't even be around.

For those who aren't aware: Sears will pay a deployed military employee the difference between their military pay and their Sears salary, so the employee doesn't lose out on any income.
In addition, Sears continues to provide full medical coverage/benefits for the deployed service person and his/her family, I believe at no additional cost to the serviceperson, so his/her family back home doesn't have any disruptions in medical care, health insurance coverage, switching clinics, etc.
And as our government has ramped up deployment for National Guard members and reservists, Sears has picked up the slack for those people as well, continuing to provide the same financial support.
I know it doesn't make things better when Sears can't seem to get an appliance properly delivered, installed, or repaired, but at least it's something, eh?

I didn't know that they did this. Thanks for posting - this makes me want to go over to Sears and support the store.

I agree! And it's costing Sears a FORTUNE to do this (now that National Guard/Reservists are serving in combat positions, Sears's burden is even greater).
