My tenant was getting a refirgerator delived ion 8/20/2006 and when the delivery guy got to the door said he would not deliver because I had a cigerette!! This is my house and it is his job to deliver my tenants product!! This Spanish speaking guy would not come to the house till I was gone!! I am very offended of this, this is there job weither smoker or not!! I have lots of Sears products in my home an if is what I have to go thought to have a product delivered for me or my tenant, shouldn't be. It is there job to deliver!! That is what they get paid for!!! I am very very upset!!!!

Teach your delivery guys to respect the customer, and not worry if they are smokers or not!!! This is a buck of Crap!! If it comes down to it I will not use or purchase any Sears Product or my tenants won't either!! I should be able to do what I want to do in my home!!!! We are paying their salary!!! With our ua people they are Grass!! We are only humand and allowed to do what we like in our homes!! Nothing is stated in your policy that we can not smoke!!!

You know, these letters are good for my health. I have decided not to
seek psychiatric help. All I need is to read these complaints, then
read the answers and I realize I am not crazy. On the contrary. I am
sane! Thanks for the laughs. Amazing world we live in.

Smoking is gross/dirty/disgusting and judging from the tone of your
letter so are you.

I am a non smoker and I hate smoke. I grew up with my dad smoking and
once I moved out of the house, I have always tried to not be around
smoke. There are times when I am around smokers I always try to just
deal with it if I have to. With this being said, if I went into a
house where the air was caked with smoke yeah I would not go in until
a person was done. Allergies aside, I WOULDN'T WANT TO SMELL LIKE
SMOKE THE REST OF THE DAY! I can't blame the guy!!! This job is how he
makes money and he represents the sears brand. If he smells like smoke
I'm sure someone else would be writing to planet feedback on how the
delivery guy stunk up their house!

The letter writer is well in her right to smoke in her own house,
however some common courtesy should have been done here!

Um, maybe he doesn't want to be choking on cigerette smoke.... ever
think of that?

Also, I could not happen but to laugh at your line about teaching the
guys to respect the customer. If you want respect, may I suggest
giving it????

Sounds like you need to grow up & get over yourself.

Any human being has the right to refuse delivery for any reason, as
long as it isn't for illegal discrimination (such as refusing to
deliver to someone because of their race, sex, religion, etc.).
Secondhand smoke, loose dogs, unsanitary conditions are all examples
of things that people shouldn't be forced to endure while doing their
jobs.

If Sears did force their employees to breath cigarette smoke, they
will be liable for their health care costs if they get sick from it. I
bet Sears actually has policy warning their employees not to go into a
home where someone is smoking to keep health care costs down.

The policy didn't need to be in writing, the employee stated it
verbally. Once you were aware of it, you had a choice. Put it out OR
no fridge for you.

Simple.

So put out the stupid cancer stick, wait until the driver finishes
delivering the product that leaves, and then light up again, if you
feel the need to!

Problem.....solution! You can go a few minutes without smoking, can't
you?

As others have mentioned, it is possible the delivery person may have
had health problems that are aggravated by cigarette smoke.

And why did you feel it necessary to point out the delivery man spoke
Spanish?

by eydie Posted Mon August 21, 2006 @ 9:26 PM

I could review your spelling errors and bad grammar with you but my
life expectancy doesn't go that high. A: He could be allergic. B: I
doubt that he said "till you were gone", he probably said till the
cigarette was gone. C: He is well within his rights not to expose
himself to second hand smoke, as it kills. I was a smoker for many
years, but i had enough respect not to smoke around non smokers.
There is an old saying, "Your right to swing your arm stops where my
nose begins." Incidentally, you need to get over the silly notion
that you are paying their salary. No, you are not. When i request
someone to put out their cigarette, it's merely a request. If they
choose not to, that's their right. However, it is my right to take my
lungs out of their reach.

'If it comes down to it I will not use or purchase any Sears Product
or my tenants won't either!'--So you can tell your tenants what they
can do in their homes? I'd have to guess there must be more to this
story--you were probably asked politely to put out your cigarette for
the brief period that it would have taken for them to deliver, but you
chose to go on a tirade and they rightly told you that they would not
deliver while you were there. I agree that you have the right to do
whatever you want in your home, but when you have others come into
your home for things like this you accept the conditions they set
forth or they have the right to refuse to do the job. Perhaps this
should be disclosed when the delivery is set up so maybe you have a
valid complaint about that, but the rest of your screed is
nonsensical...I do hope you come back and tell us what the devil 'With
our ua people they are Grass!!' means, though.

speaking Spanish? You're certainly not speaking English.

It's hard to tell from the letter, but it might not just be the guy's
personal preference that he not be around smoke. It might be a union
rule, or an OSHA rule, or even a policy of the delivery company. Or,
as others have suggested, there might have been a health problem
involved.

All in all I'd say this is a pretty distasteful letter, and the line
"With our ua people they are Grass!!" gets today's WTF Award For
Outstanding Achievement in Incoprehensibility.

My poor little sis is a severe asthmatic, catching a whiff of a
cigarette will put her into a severe attack. This guy might have had
a similar issue. I won't go near some jerk who smokes, I don't force
my bad habits upon you so why must I breathe your smoke?? So stop
buying Sears products, I'm sure they won't miss your business. How
much can you afford anyways blowing $10 per pack of cigarettes? Get a
life

The more I think about it, the more I think this guy may have
emphasema (sp) or had throat cancer, or lung cancer or anything
effecting his immune system. Maybe he has cancer and has to be careful
where he is. He might have a medical condition that keeps him from
being around things such as smoke and he is trying to just ask you to
go without a cigarette while he is delivering to you.

I have never heard of a delivery driver refusing to bring an item in
because the OWNER was smoking!

However, your reference to the "Spanish speaking guy" and the odd
comment about someone being grass or being like grass (are you sure it
wasn't YOU smoking some grass?) was unnecessary and to be honest, made
NO sense at all.

Come on people! If you are going to write a letter to a company,
include ALL the details, leave out any "opinions" or "emotions" and
double check your letter. Nothing says "I don't care about this so
why should the company?" like a letter that is dripping with
misspelled words and grammatical errors.

by Leanne L Posted Mon August 21, 2006 @ 10:32 AM

Maybe he has allergies or was told not to deliver near a smoker or
someone smoking. You never know what is in an appliance for safety
reasons. Yes you can use what you want in the privacy of your own
home without imposition while alone but you can't expect him to have
to breathe that smoke while standing next to him just because YOU need
to. Most smokers are polite and can take a five minute break for
another person and do this all the time out of sheer respect.

I have to agree with Fairy, downthread. It's sad that even smokers (me
included) are disagreeing with you. Why? It's people like you that
give the anti-smoking crusaders ammuntion that all smokers are
horrible and that cigarettes should be banned.

It's not so much about the cigarette smoke, it's called being polite
and having some respect for someone elses view besides yours. Even in
my own home, if a guest prefers that I don't smoke, guess what? I
don't. Because my mother raised me to be polite and respect people.

Sorry, thee only 'buck of crap' is this letter. Sears will toss this
in the circular file, where it belongs. Hopefully though, they'll pass
it around the office so that others can have a good laugh at your
expense.

Oh Celia_MarieH... this letter started SO nice... What happened after
that????

Oh it was "This Spanish speaking guy" I know him. He was using the
cigarette smoke as an excuse because I pay for his cigarettes. So you
can take about 50 bucks a week off his salary...maybe use it for
"finishing school". Of course I'm not serious. It's called sarcasm...
He's a nice guy, if you're clean and speak nice to him he really
delivers and rarely expects a tip. Clean up your act and Give him a
chance.

Your letter is poorly written. What is a "Buck of Crap!!". Yes you
should be able to do anything you want inside your house. Acting like
this while blowing smoke and hissing may have contributed to his right
not to expose himself to stress and second hand smoke and who knows
what the place smells like if the owner is like this.

Sears is known for not answering letters, and I cant imagine that they
would make an exception with a such a poorly written letter.

I am a smoker also. BUT, when I have people over to my house, or even
a service man coming over, I do not smoke unless I know they are ok
with it. Yes, it is your house, but it is called being polite.
Perhaps the person was allergic to smoke, or had some sort of
breathing problem, or maybe, they just hate the smell of cigarette
smoke. It can be annoying to have to hold off on a smoke or go
outside, but, you have to factor OTHER PEOPLES FEELINGS.

When you write a letter to a company, supposedly you are using your
best grammer and "big girl" words. You want to sound intelligent and
paint a nice picture of everything. If this is how you come accross
on your best behaviour, I can only wonder how you can across when you
were pissed. THink back really really hard......how rude were you?
