My Sears Days May Be Over

I purchased a new refrigerator from Sears on 06-03-08. I was told that if I open a Sears charge account I will get a 10% rebate and 6 months zero interest/zero payments. The sales clerk typed in the date of 06-05-08 for my promotional ending date, giving me 3 days of zero interest/zero payments. I noticed this mistake when he gave me the receipt, he then told me I would have to call an "800" number the next day to correct this problem. I called this number the next day and was told that I would have to call back in a few days to have this corrected. After another call, I finally get this fixed.

Refrigerator was delivered on 06-04-08. Upon delivery the delivery men knocked a chunk out of my wall, left the refrigerator in the middle of my kitchen and were gone. My wife tries to push it into the opening and it will not fit (TOO WIDE!!! - not sure what I'm going to do about this but would have liked the option of not accepting the refrigerator at this point).

I then tried to apply for my 10% rebate ($230.00 on a $2300.00 refrigerator), the on-line rebate center tells me I am only eligible for a delivery charge rebate ($74.00). I then call the store that I purchased the refrigerator from, explain my situation, and the sales clerk says he can't help me but he will transfer me to customer service. the phone rings for about 2 minutes and I get voice mail.

After spending $2512.25 on a refrigerator, I'm very angry with the amount of my time I have to spend to correct mistakes and the customer service I have received from this retailler.

My Sears days may be over.

Buying a refrigerator should not be this difficult!!!!!!!!!

Come get this refrigerator and let me start over somewhere else!!!!!!!!!

Unless the width of the fridge is not to spec (hard to believe), you
made an error when you selected it.

Why are you pursuing a rebate, when you should be pursuing returning
this fridge and getting the right width for your space? When you say
"not sure what you are going to do about it," there are only a few
choices. Send it back, widen the space, or put it somewhere else.

From the end of your letter, it sounds like you want to return the
refrigerator to Sears and move on to another retailer. This poses an
interesting question. Assuming you persevere and speak with a store
manager, what will happen about the delivery (and pickup) charges?

You need to either keep calling the store, or go there. You should be
pleasant, because it sounds like they will be doing you a favor if
they take it back.

1. Your salesperson should have immediately voided the sale and
started over.

2. You should have measured the space you wanted your fridge to fit
into before coming to the store. When I bought my new fridge, I
measured the space. The fridge I wanted was a tiny bit too big and I
had to knock off a baseboard to fit it in. The fridge being too big
for the space is not Sears fault. It's yours. Appliances these days
aren't one size fits all as they have been in the past, especially
with the advent of side by side refrigerators which often are wider
than typical freezer top fridges.

3. Yes, in the store we can't really handle rebate situations.
However, since you weren't getting anywhere calling the number, you
should have called the store back and got a manager involved.

You need to contact the store and ask for a manager. You shouldn't
have had this hassle with the rebate or credit card problems. The
issue with the fridge being too big is more your fault (sorry) than
Sears. However, they might still be willing to work with you to get a
fridge that will fit your space. Remember to be polite, but firm.
Don't freak out on the manager or they will be less willing to help
you.

Good luck.

I have to ask... if the refrigerator doesn't fit in the space, why are
you even attempting to get the rebate? Certainly you can't leave the
refrigerator in the middle of the floor and will have to return it.
