VERIZON WIRELESS A PFB user wrote a letter to Verizon Wireless in which she complained that Verizon Wireless didnt value its customers because it wouldnt let her get a new wireless phone at a discounted price because she was already a customer. Verizon wrote the following email to us:

Ms. ***** is unhappy with not being allowed to upgrade to a new phone at a promotional price in exchange for another two-year program. She claims that Verizon Wireless does not value their existing customers. After an account
review, it has been determined that Ms. ***** is not yet eligible to upgrade her phone at promotional price. She started this account on a 2-year agreement on 02/05/2005. At that time she purchased her vx-4500 at
the 2-year promotional cost of $39.99. On all 2-year promotional purchases, our customers are not entitled to another promotionally priced equipment until 22 months have passed. Ms. **** understands that she is not eligible for an upgrade at this time.

Hewlett-Packard A PFB user wrote to HP with a complaint about service for her HP branded IPod. This is the response we received from HP:

Hewlett-Packard contacted Ms. *** and was informed that currently her unit is working, however she is unstable in the belief that it may continue to work. Hewlett-Packard reached the agreement with Ms. ** that as the unit is working now to keep it and if next week a problem arises to call Hewlett-Packard back so that the unit may be sent in for service.

Another PFB user wrote to HP and complained about finding a printer cartridge in the wrong packaging. Here is HP's response:

Hewlett-Packard contacted Ms. * via phone message on 12-22-05 and explained that HP would send out Two of the correct cartridges and apologized for the inconvience.

As someone who works behind the scenes at a cellphone provider and
prior to that worked for a manufacturer, I can say this. It appears
everyone out there whining seems to think the cell companies are
marking up the prices on the phones, they are not. Your provider
makes absolutely NOTHING on the sale of the phone.

You broke your iphonie and are mad because it costs the same to have
it repaired that you paid for it? ok great, why don't you go next
time and buy your next iphone W"ITHOUT a 2 year contract. 649.00 is
what it will cost you. That's the retail cost of the phone, your
RPOVIDER PAYS 649 DOLLARS FOR THE PHONE AND GIVES IT TO YOU FOR 199,
and you want them to keep paying 600+ per phone and giving them to you
for under 200?

Remind me again, who's the greedy one?

I am not a fan of Hewlett Packard either. I tried to return a product
that had never been used to Walmart, the package was opened because I
opened it. I did not take the package off of the cartridge however. I
was lead to believe that this cartridge was the one that I needed. I
called the company because Walmart wouldn't accept it, saying it was
Hewlett Packard's policey not to take it back. I was given a straight
out no, and thus I hung up. Never again, will I purchase a Hewlett
Packard product, I do not need to be treated like that , after
spending good money on the printer and the outrageously priced
cartridges and all problems that company has. It's name no longer
stands for what it did ten years ago or even 20. I don't care for the
attitude of the customer services dept either, and it is reflected in
not purchasing anything at all from them.
That's an error on the customer services and or the policy makers
there at Hewlett Packard INC.

Verizon like every other company is in business to make money. They do
not make money by giving away the latest technology for FREE.

You people are sorry asses and need to learn how to pay your way
through life, you are not entitled to a free life, and you certainly
are not entitled to a free new phone.

The lady that her son wrecked and smashed the phone ... thats too bad
but how is that Verizons fault???? Did you also call the car
manufacturer and tell them how you have been a good customer and have
paid for years on the car but your own actions have now destroyed it
so could they just give you a new one free???? Here is another idea,
next time you are in WalMart when you get to the counter tell them you
have been a loyal customer and have shopped there for two years and so
today you want the stuff in your basket for FREE. It is the same thing
you are asking of Verizon or any other company, and it is ridiculous
to expect that you build spendable monetary value by being a customer.

Shop around....
I use to have verizon and had all the same issues. I felt burnt by
them. After I canceled service I signed up with a little cell provider
called Golden State Cell, they operate in the sierra mtn area of
northern california. The service has some of their own towers but the
extended network uses verizon network. Goldern State is great!!! The
best customer service ever. You can buy a $15 verizon phone off e-bay
and they will turn it on for you. You can purchase insurance and if
you lose you phone they will replace for a $20 fee. No it is not the
newest cell phone on the market, but if you have a kid who loses
phones all the time, then a $15 phone is great. When my phone is not
working and I stop by the office, they will open it and try to fix it
free. If you don't want to sign a contract, then they will sit up your
basic phone service with your old phone for a fee of something like
$30. If you want to sign a contract, then they will give you a free
phone. There is more great things to say about Golden State. I assume
it is because they are a small company and probably others like them
around the county. The point I want make is that the plan they offer
is for nationwide calling at one flat rate depending on the number of
minutes. So why not call them, even if you live outside the area code,
the product is the same as verizon. The only visible difference to the
user would be a 209 area code on their phone number. I have a family
member on this plan and they live in WY. Their service works like
everyone else in WY but the company is in CA. The only difference is
they have a 209 area code instead of a 307 area code.

Go to a private cell phone store and you will probably be able to get
a replacement phone for any network for $5- or less and they will
program your service number and provider into the phone for you. This
is what I do when I have to replace a phone and I've never had a
problem always having a phone. Don't mess with the service provicer
in a situation like this!

Response from Verizon and Sprint by Dora H. Fri November 20, 2009 @ 12:57 AM

This is just typical for Cellular companies, unfortunately.
My son had his phone destroyed in an auto accident where 1 boy died,
and he was luck to live. When I contacted Sprint, all they would tell
me is that he was not eligible to receive an upgrade, and that he
could, however, report it as lost/stolen! DUH! How is it that you pay
so much money every month, and none of these idiots give a damn about
the person paying?

I think the really rediculous part of not getting the discounted phone
is that they really don't cost that much. If you buy a prepay phone
you can get a phone for only 20.00 but that same phone with a verizon
plan miraculously changes to 300.00

Verizon Wireless -- Thanks for your rediculous response to the
complaint. Your company policy regarding customer service has been
noted and I will avoid your company in my search for a cell phone
provider. And I bet my business as well as the business of others who
have read this and NOT responded has cost you more than your
rediculous policy earns you in any given year.

Let's face it -- cell phones are cheap plastic crap----and I have
dismantled enough of them in my research to know that they are cheap
garbage made of cheap plastic imported products from japan, India and
China -- where you pay minimal cost for these disposable products and
then pass on to your loyal customers nothting more than attitude,
hogwash policies and inconvenience -- when will you guys learn that
good customer service is key to success. I personally monitor
complaint forums for this purpose --- you have lost a potential
customer for failure to take care of your customer.

But if you would like to sign a 2 year agreement for just 39.99 I
would be willing to reverse my POLICY on this matter.

You folks all have good points. I only have some points to ponder that
I'd like to mention based on personal experience.

There are apparently "sub" contractors of some type with HUGE Verizon
signs over their stupid little tables and they tell you that you can
get a new phone and than send in some coupon for some type of "refund"
depending on their sale. What they DO NOT tell you is you MAY NOT
qualify if you've not waited out your ENTIRE 2 yrs and that you MUST
change your package to qualify in the first place.

BEWARE OF VENDORS-many times they ARE NOT true Verizon employees even
and unless you're one of those people that is really knit picky and
reads fine print you're likely to be taken advantage of. So, just be
careful out there. It can be confusing. My advice? Visit an actual
Verizon store (call the company for local addresses), buy the phone
insurance, especially if you work a construction type job where your
phone could get harmed. Other advice, read your contract--regularly if
you have to and ask PLENTY of questions and read their offers word by
word!

I totally agree with the Verizon Wireless Issue. You have to wait
until your contract is up to get a new phone at a discounted price or
pay like $300 for a new phone. That is such bull. They are not going
to change their ways either because alot of older people are with
Verizon. I can honestly say I hate my Verizon phone it is terrible and
I will disconnect when my contract is over along with the rest of my
family.

I think it says something about Dell Computers that they have not
responded to the 1957 complaints on this message board, soon to be
1958 with our experience. Dell really doesn't care about their
customers or their product.

Just like always, you don't value your customers. I bought a phone and
it does not perform as you stated, but now I to am stuck with this
phone.

Needless to say I am going to change services and phones as so as my
contract runs out.

Also a very unhappy customer!!!!!

I would love to see all these De-Regulated phone services(WireLess
Particularly) have to operate the way most businesses have to that do
NOT have the luxury of locking people into 2 year contracts with no
way to terminate from poor quality service or lack of what was
expected of the service.
If people had the ability to switch when a better service was offered
maybe these companies would start focusing on delivering on the
PROMISES SOLD TO THEM by the poorly paid salespeople that will tell
you anything to get the sale and commission.
Also, maybe they wouldn't be able to keep changing things just to
SUCKER NEW CUSTOMERS only to change the plan at their discretion.
Insurance companies also, have you ever tried to actually try to shop
around for better rates on insurance?
Where would anyone not want to have a copy of the competitors policy,
complete with price etc. and then just say nothing new.

Hey, I like this feature. Letting us know what the companies have
said. It could be useful to include a link to the original letter for
each one, if it's not too much trouble. :)
