Slow / Inadequate Response to Hacking of Customer Financial Data

Posted Thu June 21, 2012 12:02 pm, by Mark K. written to Something Weird Video

I was recently (and belatedly) informed by Something Weird Video (an online retailer of "cult" movies based in Seattle, Washington) that my Debit Card had been hacked & was thus exposed / vulnerable.

Sure enough, I'm still wading through the financial messes generated by their security breach.

I found Something Weird's response to the situation to be SLOW & totally lacking in responsiveness / transparency.

Spell out (in detail) what measures they'll be taking now & in the future to preclude this situation from recurring. I simply no longer feel comfortable doing business with them online.

that probably won't happen.

sure i know you want to have a detailed printout of all their methods
but...

1) divulging the methods can also be counterproductive to maintaining
security. if you know how they secure data you can figure out how to
break their system.

2) even if they told you how... would it make sense?
unless you're a computer wiz, they could technically just throw some
gobbledygook and... customers might not know the difference.

Technically they could say that they're..... using the latest
141.62227 Kilometer/Hour system, powered by a 1.21 GW power supply,
channeled through a state-of-the-art capacitor...

Mark K.,

I pulled up what I think is there site. Considering what I saw there
my bet is security of customers is probably not a topic that merits a
high rate of concern on their part.
