Dear Sir or Madam:
We have had an account with your company for the past 10 years, starting as Nextel Customers, then moved over to you when you acquired Nextel.
A couple of months ago, I had the use of Internet Sharing on my Moto Q9c, which aloud me the option of tethering my to my laptop, which I have to say was a nice feature to have when I'm unable to connect to a customer network when I'm contracted to do Site Surveys for Network Installations.
This past Sunday, I lost a $5,000.00 Site Survey contract because I was unable to get internet access by tethering my phone. I contacted your tech support and customer support lines today to find out the you performed an audit on accounts that did not have the Phone As Modem feature and now that feature is longer available to me.
I was also told that I would have to pay for the feature if I wanted it. I'm sorry, if I already had the feature, then the feature should be available to me with out any other cost.
Due to the fact that your company is unwilling to provide me the feature back, which I never abused (meaning, I only used on emergency purposes only), we are currently talking with Verizon to take two of our accounts that include 4 phones and take the 10 years of business from you and give it to Verizon, which is willing to give a plan that will include the Phone As Modem feature for free.
If you do not want to lose our business, which your representatives keep saying they don't want to happen, then it would be nice to have the Internet Sharing feature on my phone again for free.

Careful. They could back charge you for "stealing" service from them. Of course, since you were unaware, they won't.
Example: I lived in an apartment where, when I plugged my TV into the cable outlet, I got cable. I assumed it came with the apartment. It didn't. The cable company never turned it off. They back charged for my using it. They justified this because, like you, I plugged a cable into their service, unauthorized.

If you want to use phone as a modem go to T-Mobile. I have a G1 with them and got the program PDANET that uses the device as a usb modem. Blazing fast over 3g for anything i use over it. Can even play Aion and World of Warcraft over the connection. Currently to date T-Mobile is the only US carrier that don't charge extra. I am almost certain that Verizon does.

It's not uncommon for cell providers to routinely audit lines to confirm that their customers are not using features that they are not paying for. You should double and triple check the information you are getting from Verizon. It would be extremely rare to not have to pay extra for tethering. As far as I know, all carriers charge for that feature. Good luck!
