Unprofessional Employees

Posted Sun January 27, 2008 1:38 pm, by suzanne s. written to Starbucks

I have been going to the Starbucks in our local Safeway store and until recently the employees were EXCELLENT....Now I refuse to give them any more of my business which is about 3 times a day!! They have very inmature employees who swear, throw things and are just very very unprofessional...I have tried to understand but it is getting way out of hand..I feel like I am bothering then to request a drink I am paying for! The only DECENT employee is Justin but he is not there all the time of course...There really needs to be something done ASAP...yesterday was a NIGHTMARE....most of the people waiting in line left in disgust at the unprofessionalism of the two employees who were there...

ALL the employees need to be reminded this is a JOB and not their personal venting grounds...They need to act PROFESSIONAL at ALL times and QUIT SWEARING AND THROWING THINGS AND MAKING PAYING CUSTOMERS feel guilty for ordering a drink...I am so fed up...I also do not trust these guys to not do something to the drinks..It is scary..I have been going to Starbucks for years and this is the first time I do not trust an amployee to mess up my drink order!

You need to tell Safeway about this too as these employees are
actually working for Safeway. The Starbucks is a licensed store, not
a corporate one. They are Safeway employees, not Starbucks.

Starbucks? THREE times a day? This is really Britney Spears, isn't it?

I think you should of been given free coffee this trip.

I personally charge everything and then just make one electronic
payment at the end of the month...but if you carry balances I can see
why you would not wish to charge the purchases.

I had given my Mom a 100.00 TJMAXX card for one of her Christmas Gifts
this past Christmas. We had driven about 35 miles to Brentwood TN
store to shop the Saturday after Christmas. The store was packed with
shoppers. Over the intercom announcements were being made that said
"if you are planning on using a gift card we cannot take it today, our
system is down."

Now had I been the manager in this store I would of made some percent
off coupons and given them to those guest that had gift cards or
perhaps everyone in the store at the time. My mom did not really care
it just gave her an excuse to return to shop. However I did hear
people grumbling over this announcement. Did they have gift cards I
don't know. I am guessing just by the sheer numbers of shoppers a few
did have them that day.

From a PR standpoint giving you a cup of coffee or two would of been
the correct thing to do. In my case I would of just charged it. I
NEVER carry cash! Their failure to try and correct the situation for
you has cost Starbucks a lot more than a couple of cups of coffee,
since you said you will not be back.

might I be guessing right that these employees are immature juveniles
or adults acting like immature juveniles?

This is the third time you've had an issue at Starbucks. Are they all
the same store? If so, you might consider taking your business
elsewhere.

I can see your point with the employees there...except if/when you do
re-write the letter please eliminate all the capital lettered words.

Another thought....when do you usually patronize this Starbucks? I
would think the store manager would be there at some point during the
day. If applicable, be sure to speak to them and if it turns out its
franchised by the store its in, be sure to talk to the grocery store
manager.

If its the former (store manager in the Starbucks itself), you may
want to go to the next level right away. For all you know it might be
a new (Starbucks) store manager and he/she might be the cause of all
the angst there.

Good luck in this!

Is it just me or can anyone else feel the caffeine oozing out of this
letter?
The caps, the exclamation points...
I feel wired just reading this.

3 times a day...

It seems everyone agrees, if ever there was a need to notify
management, this is one of the best examples.
If you decide a letter is the way to go, maybe tone down the caps as
it's acceptable on the net(equated to emphasis or screaming), it's
unprofessional in a formal business letter and may deter from a valid
complaint.

Do you really buy Starbucks three times a day?

Regardless, the behavior of these employees is clearly an issue. If
this is a kiosk, notify the store manager (as others have suggested).
If this is a complete store-within-a-store (my local Safeway has a
full Starbucks inside it), then ask to speak to the Starbucks manager.

I agree that you should re-send this to Safeway as they are their
employees and Starbucks only pays to have their name there.

But I also find it hard to believe that management is anything but
oblivious to their behavior because someone has had to report them
before this if their behavior is this obvious.

Let us know what transpires after you write to Safeway.

You should be writing this letter to Safe-Way not Starbucks. All the
people that work at Starbucks here in Colorado are Safe-Way employees,
but are trained by starbucks. So, re-write this letter to them. But,
I agree w/ you. This is not a good way for these employees to act,
something should be done to rectify the issue!

While I find it difficult to believe that a manager could be
completely unaware of employees behaving in this manner, I suppose it
is possible. And given that, I would suggest you contact the manager,
perhaps the mid- afternoon when it's likely not so busy, and report
what you have seen. It's also possible that the grocery store owns
the franchise in its store, so you may be able to speak with the store
manager.

You didn't tell them which location this occurs at, so you could
consider writing another letter with more information.

Good luck!
