Like a good neighbor - NOT STATE FARM!!! Who may never be THERE!

Write a Letter to this Company

A tree fell on a rental property. This tree caused serious damage to the roof. The tree fell due to a storm in Camby, Indiana area. The roof damage consists of broken trusses, base plates, stabilizer beam, ceiling joists, ceiling drywall and has also allowed the rain and other elements including sunlight to penetrate the structure of the home. The carpet and couches are destroyed by the rain. Not to mention, the extreme heat in this area will definitively cause mold issues within this wet area.

A claim was filed first thing on Sunday, Aug 5 around 6 am. An adjuster has still not contacted nor appeared onsight for the policy/homeowner.

A call was made to the home office. This office proceeded to send out a restoration team, who provided stabilization to some of the trusses and ceiling joists and applied a plastic covering to the couches...just the couches. They did vacuum the drywall and floor area, but no standing water was removed.

The homeowner contacted State Farm more than 7x on Sunday, 8/5/2012. He was told that they
were closed, and that no action, other than a claim number, could provided. On Monday, 8/6/2012, he contacted the company multiple times again. The only thing they could provide (the SALES AGENT...not the 1-800), was the restoration company. The customer service individual stated that they had 48 hrs to provide a reply. After 48 hours the adjuster should provide a phone call and had another 48 hours to actually show on the premesis. This would make this 6-7 days following the actual event. Not a "blink of an eye" as advertised, and certainly not what "a GOOD NEIGHBOR" would do.

We have been told that it is possible that an adjuster will not appear onsight until more than 7 days following the actual event. State Farm Insurance company has commercials all over the airways that claim "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there". In these commercials, within a blink of an eye, the damage is controlled and the insurance customers are taken care of - in some commercials with hugs and teddy bears provided to comfort while awaiting the end of their worries.

These commercials are a lie. These commercials cause individuals to trust in an insurance company, ensuring them that the insurance company will "take care" of the problem in a timely manner.

This has NOT been done in this situation. This is NOT what State Farm claims to be in their advertising.

State Farm NEEDS to get an adjuster on site immediately to remedy this situation.

Multiple family members of the actual homeowner have proceeded to take out homeowner policies due to the long-standing reputation and history that this particular homeowner has had up to this point with State Farm. This WILL change. We will be moving all of our business to an insurance company who will stand by their claims of being there for the customer.

The only way to change this is to have an adjuster on site to the home in Camby, IN by Wed 8/7/2012. This would be 48 hours following the event. 7+ days following a near catastrohic event is uncalled for - for an event...for any company.

First of all I have to say that I'm really sorry to the original
poster/posters on the loss and frustration that they encountered in
dealing with State Farm.

I honestly have to say that I've had State Farm for over 20 years with
both my homeowners and car insurance (for 5 vehicles in the family -
myself, spouse and three teenagers, and we all know how teenagers get
into (in my case, only minor accidents}}.

I've never had any type of a problem with State Farm in dealing with
any type of claim (including homeowner's claims and car damages).

The State Farm 800 number IS in operation 7 days a week 24 hours every
day. I have never had a problem with NOT getting a real live person.
However, there were times that claims were submitted on weekends, and
we had to wait until the following Monday, but everything went
smoothly following the Monday conversations.

Personally, I can't complain about anything with State Farm, and I'm
sure there will be other responders that are happy with them.

Their other commercials are a lie as well, where they say you can call
any time day or night and talk to an agent. What they don't say is
that you have to already be a customer. You can't call at 11 p.m. to
get rate quotes or anything. You either have to have a claim number,
OR they'll give you the name and number of a nearby agent.
