My daughter does not need to be on a diet...

We dined at Steak 'n Shake the other night. We eat there about once or twice a month, but it has been a while since our last visit. We ordered our dinner. The server brought our shakes. They were significantly smaller than the last ones we had ordered. Didn't think much about it. But, when they brought out our dinner and the server gave my youngest daughter this tiny bowl of about three bites of macaroni, I had to say something. We buy the single servings of Kraft mac and cheese at home and they make and eat those themselves. This serving was about a third of one of those. It was ridiculous and I spoke to the server about it. She was mildly concerned and said that is the amount in the pre-packaged container and they just fix it. Fortunately, they got my order incorrect and I received french fries that I gave to my daughter so she could have a full meal. Mind you, she is not a big child, by any means - very healthy and eats well. But this was a disappointing dinner.
Re-evaluate your 'economic' cut-backs and make some better choices. Yes, most of the dinners are a good value, but to have paid around five dollars for my daughter's meal, she only got about a twenty cent amount of macaroni.

The waitress was correct. The manufacturer Kraft reduced the size of the mac and cheese pouches. We use them where I work and I noticed the smaller size as well.

companies hope we do not notice when products shrink. A while back I bought some sliced cheese. I noticed the slices were thinner...still 16 slices, but now 14.5 oz. instead of 16.

that the server (or the cook staff) felt your daughter needed portion control? That's a bit of a stretch just from what you wrote here.
Let me ask you this: If they raised the price to serve what would be an "adequate" portion in your mind, would you be willing to pay the additional cost for that? Have you BEEN grocery shopping lately? EVERYTHING has gone up. I was at the store the other day and the "premium name brand" gallon of milk was $4.95!!! I kid you not! It was $4.95. Granted, the "generic store brand" was about $2.95, but that was still kind of high to me.
YOU might serve your child that way and that's perfectly fine, but for what SnS charges, they portion it to what make best fiscal sense for them. It's not personal, so there's really not much point in trying to make it into something personal.

Expenses have gone up.
There's two options establishments can make - they can raise prices to reflect the new costs or they can make the amounts smaller.
Yes yes, you want them to make "better choices" ... well this IS the choice. Things may improve if the cost of gas goes down (drill for crying out loud!) but... in the meantime the costs to operate are not going down.
