I would just like to say the I just talked to Visa and Mastercard, and they BOTH encourage showing photo ID. It is for your protection. As for giving it to them, don't...lol DUH. There should be no reason why you wouldn't want to prove youre you. I work in retail and let me say, our ambition is not to make your life difficult by asking for proof of person. We are protecting you the customer...our reason for living :) and our business by preventing unneccesary chargebacks. You see all those ppl out there that are pretending to be other ppl actually get free stuff! Visa and Mastercard don't pay for it the individual businesses do. So when I spoke to Visa the agent even said...ITS UP TO THE STORE, ITS THEIR POLICY. Ie. its their money on the line and if they want to say Nope, show me ID or theres no purchase for you...then its OUR right.
And in the end like I said previously...WE ARE JUST TRYING TO PROTECT YOU!! :)

RE Credit Cards and ID:
Neither Visa nor MasterCard require that ID be presented when using their cards (except in specific circumstances). In fact, they both have guidelines AGAINST it.
A vendor who does not comply with their rules & regulations can lose the right to accept their cards.
Here's what Visa says in their vendor rules:
"Merchants cannot make an ID a condition of acceptance... merchants cannot refuse to complete a purchase transaction because a cardholder refuses to provide ID. Visa believes merchants should not ask for ID as part of their regular card acceptance procedures."
MasterCard says:
"A merchant must not refuse to complete a MasterCard transaction solely because a cardholder... refuses to provide additional identification information."
WHY? you may ask...
IDENTITY THEFT. Showing additional ID is more of an issue and risk than credit card fraud itself. There are many multiple identify thefts via use of security cameras and copying ID data from store purchases -- "inside" jobs. Criminals can then obtain/create fake IDs with the driver's license data, matching the info to that on the credit cards.
As Visa says, "...criminals don't take the time to practice signatures: they use cards as quickly as possible after a theft and... are counting on you [the vendor] NOT to look at the back of the card and compare signatures -- they may even have access to counterfeit identification with a signature in their own handwriting. 'See ID' or 'Ask for ID' is NOT a valid substitute for a signature."
What is a vendor supposed to do?
(1) Match the signature on the purchase slip to the signature on the card. PERIOD.
(2) If the card is UNSIGNED or says "Ask for ID" the vendor is then to ask for ID, AND the customer MUST sign the card in their presence. They then match the signature on the ID to the signature on the credit card.
(3) If they're suspicious about the transaction or signatures, they make a specially coded call to the credit card company that is available 24/7.
In addition, a vendor cannot set a minimum purchase requirement, nor can they tack on additional charges for cash vs. credit card purchases.
Credit card companies have insurance provisions in place for fraudulent charges. Vendors cannot just make up their own rules because they THINK they know best, or SAY "Our rules are for your own protection" because they don't and they aren't.
It pays to know your rights -- and then stick up for them. I printed the sections of both Visa & MasterCard regulations RE credit card transactions and keep copies with me to give to the manager of any store that asks for my ID. They don't have the right to any of my personal information, and I'm not going to make some criminal's "job" easier.
I don't frequent Subway because (1) their food is mediocre at best, and (2) while they say they're just trying to be "humorous and fun" with their ads, they are simply ignorant, offensive and unfunny.

I think that he is gone, and is not commenting anymore to anyone (Thank God). Either he gave up or he saw the error of his ways, or maybe he just dropped off of the face of the earth (we can only hope).
Lets retire this letter to the compost heap and let someone else rise to the top of this heap.

Now, even though this little letter does sound like a child crying for attention, it has a lot of truth in it. I used to hate Quiznos, but now that I have traveled so much, I have found that Subway usually has cranky employees, dirty locations, and I worry that the food might make me sick. I used to love subway, but since Jared got involved, it's icky. :(

All Corporate does with these letters is send them to the owners......it's up to the owners or their general managers to deal with them.......so no reason to get crappy with Subway, go deal with the GM or the owner personally...............

Get over it this happened two years ago, if they did not want your business two years ago what makes you think they want your business now. You won't get a reply, you did not get one two years ago, you won't get one now. This whole letter was a waste of time to write, I am sure when you wrote the second letter you knew you were not getting a reply so why write it in the first place, just stick to Quizno's. What if you had another problem with Quizno's would you ban that sandwich shop as well.

I can understand why Robert would repost regarding his complaint.
I know I have had complaints that were completely ignored, and that ticked me off more than the original complaint.
Often, though, my life is so filled with purpose and meaning and more important things in the grand scheme, that the problem becomes trvial and forgotten.
Then, one day, I will be visitng PFB and see a letter similar to mine and I will think, "Oh yeah, they never answered my complaint."
That could be what happened here.
As for his comments to the people here, well, after reading the nature of his original complaint, he sounds like a petulant little boy stomping his feet and having a tantrum, calling out, "You doodoo head," to those who would choose to call him on his actions.
He had every right to contact the company again over something so trivial, just as we have a right not to read his letters or respond, and a right to forward complaints about insulting or boorish behaviour to the management of the PlanetFeedBack site.

Tis funny that you mention Subway. My wife and daughter went to the Subway on Perrin Beitel in San Antonio, TX (only on that street). The employee was smoking outside but finished when they arrived. This employee went behind the counter to take the order. Not only did he not wash his hands but failed to wear gloves. My wife and daughter both left the store. I guess you can call the health dept. but if they don't see act, thet cannot react. We have stopped using Subway but use Arbys or Quiznos for a sandwich.
I hope 1 day the Subway CEO will pick up on this !!!

If it ain't broke don't fix it.
You've been boycotting them for two years with Excellent results for YOU and THEM...no problem so why make an issue of it now? I doubt another complaint after two years of being ignored is going to make them answer! Seriously.
This is just my opinion take it for what it's worth.

Well hell...if Rob's attitude in this letter and the comments in response to it are any indication of his first letter, no wonder Subway didn't want to deal with him.
He's throwing a tantrum like a 2-year-old, over the clerk asking to see his ID. The nerve of that clerk.
OK Bobbo, do your worst. It'll just prove what a petty, pigheaded jerk you are.

I have worked as a cashier in the past and there are credit and debit cards out there that state on the back of the card at the signature line - If the card does not have a signature, it is up to the discretion of the merchant to accept the card.
By the tone in all of your posts, it sounds like you became rude with the cashier simply because *gasp* they had the audacity to ask for your I.D. This has to be a joke because it is hard to believe a person would allow something so silly and petty to take up space in their brain for 2+ years.
How about a real complaint: My husband frequented the neighborhood Subway even after the manager rudely refused to add pepperoni to a meatball sub, something he'd been getting at Subway's since he was a kid. One afternoon, he went in and they refused to upsize his drink to a medium size. It pissed him off so bad - he flipped. He threw the sandwich at the ceiling which burst opened into pieces and sprayed all over the store then spiked the drink on the counter/floor before telling them they could keep their food. He almost took the door off its hinges as he walked out. He refuses to ever step foot into that Subway again, nor does he whine about it months later!

At the risk of feeding the troll: (it's ok I got a Subway meatball)
Clerks asking for ID protect you. Do you keep your ID and credit card in separate locations? Like Vermont and Oregon? If you have to go into your wallet, purse, back pack, fanny pack or whatever you carry stuff in, I'm sure they're relatively close in proximity. I never even take my ID out of my carrier. Just flip the thing open, let them check the name and be done. Do you really think the 16 year old kid behind the counter came up with that plan?
Judging by your overwhelming need to be a smart alec to everyone, I'm guessing you aren't exactly the most cordial fellow on the street. Let it go. We get it. Subway sucks.

I was curious, so I went looking for your original letter. Here it is:
http://www.planetfeedback.com/index.php?level2=blog_viewpost&topic_id= 260332
I had been wondering what Subway had done to you that was so horrible that you're still seething over it two years after the fact. And now I know. They asked to see your ID when you used your credit card.
I'm going to repeat that, just to let it sink in. You've wasted two years of your life being angry at a fast food joint because they asked to see your ID when you used a credit card. Mother of God, that's just sad.
Also, in two years' time, you've only managed to cost Subway five customers? Quick, somebody name a holiday after this guy.
Life is way too short for this kind of aggravation, pal. You had an unpleasant experience eating out. Big woop. Happens to everyone from time to time, but you don't see us boo-hooing about it two years down the road. Get on with your life. You've gotta have more important things to worry about than this crap.

I really don't think Subway cares, and the fact that you still do after all this time is really sad.
As for your five friends who supposedly don't go to Subway? I think they're either lying to shut you up or are total sheep. I would never boycott a place simply on the word of mouth of someone who supposedly had a bad experience.
Incidentally, Subway is a franchise; you'd probably have received a response had you written to the actual location at which you had your alleged bad experience.
Either way, the fact that you chose to write this ridiculous and pointless diatribe indicates one of two things: you either a) have an overweening ego and a sense of entitlement; or b) you really need a hobby.

Are you going to update them every five years or so to let them know you're still keeping your vow?

Thats OK Robert. I give Subway enough business to make up for the both of us and probably 20 of your friends. The Subways in my neighborhood all have sanitation ratings of 98-105 and the employees are friendly and efficient. And I LOVE their roasted chicken subs on whole wheat with veggies and FF ranch dressing....keeps me from eating whoppers or big macs and my hips thank me for it everyday.

I, too, refuse to go to Subway. I had an incident a few weeks ago at a local Subway and I sent an e-mail from their website. I received a letter through the mail saying basically, "we got your complaint and we'll pass it along...thanks". I was never compensated for the 6" sub they owe me (long story, but I assure you, a valid one). They aren't the only or best sub place around!

First thing...Subway isnt a resturant. They are a sandwhich shop.
Secondly...A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO?! Are you kidding me?! You waited this long for them to respond without sending another complaint? You obviously didnt care too much about your own complaint to let so much time go by without following up on it. Why should they care?
Truly suck huh? Thats really mature. I am sure they are mourning the loss...

One letter. How did send it?
It's possible that the letter was lost in the mail. Or, if you used PF or sent an e-mail, it's possible it never made it.
Or, maybe your letter didn't deserve a response. From the sounds of it, you make threats. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that maybe your letter was rude. Maybe?
In any case, the response to your new letter is "bye."

"I also want you to know that Quiznos gets all of my business and will continue until the day that Subway goes out of business." Is it just me or does this make no sense at all? If subway goes out of business is this guy going to stop going to Quiznos? Are Quiznos and Subway the only 2 places in the world to get a sub?
