I Hate Subway's Philly Cheese Steak!

I went to Subway near my work and I ordered the Philly Sandwich. I had originally wanted Dairy Queen, but it was closed. Now, I ALWAYS order the same thing at Subway and always have for over 10 years now. ( Foot Long turkey with American, not toasted with light lettuce, extra black olives, mayo, vinegar and oil and Salt and pepper) I would have gotten that , but I just had it 2 days prior. So I went with the Philly Cheese. How could I go wrong? Boy was I ever!!! It was DISGUSTING!!! I paid $11.00 for my lunch and ate about .50 worth!! It was sooooo salty and it tasted like it might have been rancid! I'm not 100% sure about the rancidness, but I KNOW it was EXTREMELY salty. I didn't get a scrabble piece on my sandwich , to make things worse, and the Dr. Pepper tasted like cherry something. I eat subway atleast 3 times a week ( there is one by my work and one by my house ) and I have never been this dissatisfied in a really long time.

Take that Philly off the Menu!!!

I would really like to be reimbursed for my meal. The only thing I ate was the bag of Ms. Vicki's Jalepeno Chips and a few sips of the mystery soda. Like I said, I eat Subway a lot and have been for YEARS!!! Everytime I think about that taste makes me grossed out!!

I think this is a case of after having the "real thing", not being
able to satisfy oneself with an imitation. I don't know a single
person who's ever lived in Atlantic Canada who can truly enjoy seafood
anywhere else. Don't even get me started on the McLobster.

I'm curious as to how a sandwich like this would sell in, say,
PHILADELPHIA. I bet no self-respecting Philadelphian would touch it!

You know, the other day I tried a Philly sub, and I thought it was
pretty darned nasty too. There's a strange tang to it that might be
what you mean by tasting rancid. And I'm with you on the saltiness,
too.

Interestingly, my husband tried my rejected sub and immediately
offered to switch me sandwiches. He actually thought it was good!
And I was more than happy to chow down on his cold cut trio.

Maybe it's a matter of taste? Like, we've got it and my husband
doesn't? *shrug*

I will say, if this ever happens to you again, your best bet is to let
someone at the location know immediately. Most managers honestly
appreciate getting the chance to fix your problem themselves, rather
than being told by corporate to do so. Also, "mystery soda" made me
lol a little. Eeeewww... :)

I love that sandwich! Sorry you had trouble with it and I hope you
get a response soon.

WOW, where I live Subway has ALL of their foot long (yes the BIG ones)
sandwiches selling for $5.00, could be a regional thing I guess, but
while back home in Texas two weeks ago they were $5.00 there too. My
point? $11.00 for a sandwich chips and a drink, I would be equally
upset by that! No idea where you are but WOW deep pockets for a
sandwich. Just my $.02

That was pretty steep for even a foot long by dulynoted (aka duttycalls) Fri September 12, 2008 @ 6:11 PM

If you took it back to the counter they may have been able to make you
a new one with fresher ingredients, opened a new bottle of oil or
something so it wouldn't have a chance to have been rancid. Then if it
still was awful you'd know for sure it's the way they are making the
sandwich and not bad ingredients.

On the Dr. Pepper, it is normal to have a cherry flavoring to it. I
always mix my diet soda with a little Dr. Pepper to add that bit of
sweetness to it.

The way to handle this, in my opinion, is to take the inferior product
back. If the employee or a manager samples what is in the store and
can verify your complaint, they should refund your moeny or give you a
replacement product. Writing a letter to the company as a first
method of complaint does not seem effective. How can your claim be
proven? Good luck though.

If she is making a claim that it may be rancid, she should prove it. by Steve-OH Thu September 11, 2008 @ 3:01 PM

I am not a Philly Cheese sandwich person so I can sympathize with you.

The one Subway that we always go to has a small tray on their counter
with cut up pieces of their newest sandwhich (and if no new one -
whatever they want) on the tray for tasting of anyone who wants to.
They had the Philly Steak there the other day...my son tasted it and
he was glad he did not buy it. Just as you stated he said it was very
salty for some reason.

While most Subways do not have a "taste tray" for their customers this
would make a great idea.

But I think you should have wrapped the sandwhich back up headed back
to Subway and asked for your money back. This way the manager/employee
will know what was wrong with it.
I wonder if many others had this Philly Steak and liked it.
There is usually not very much to dislike at Subway.

Shawna,

This sounds like you felt there was a problem when it happened, sat
there, ate some of the food, went to work, went home and wrote this
letter.

An important step in the feedback process was omitted. I am
referencing bringing problem(s) to the attention of the manager so the
issue(s)can be addressed. In this case the manager could have looked
at the product, determined it was rancid, made you another sandwich
and taken those raw materials and disposed of them.

I noticed that you didn't provide the day, date and time you were
served.
