I think you should have considered calling the police when the employee did this, espcially since you're so sure that this was justa cover for theft, not an innocent mistake.

This sub shop has fired a lot of workers for a lot of reasons. The workers that are there now don't care about there job and look like will rob you in a second. Thay told me that there books were a dollor short. If he put the money in his pocket and he counted the drawer any overage wont be reported.I was played a fool, I learned not to trust.

Why did the Subway clerk not give you change after giving him $20.00? Did he actually put the $20.00 in the drawer & just hand you your order? Did he not realize that you were owed change?
If that location was $10.00 over, I wonder how he explained it to the manager. If I am $10.00 over, & I deal with money at times, my manager would want to know why I was over $10.00.

Why did you leave without your change? Didn't you say that you handed the cashier a twenty dollar bill? What did the cashier say? I don't understand how this all unfolded.

I understand that you gave the clerk a $20.00 bill for a $9.81 sub order, & did not receive your change. Did you ask for a manager to count the drawer to see if it was $10.00 over?
I would want my money back too, but if I did not ask for a manager to count the drawer to see if it was $10.00 over & left without insisting that it needs to be done, then I would have to accept the fact that I might not be able to get the $10.00 that is owed to me.
So unfortunately you might be out of luck unless the manager is willing to give you the $10.00 you are owed.
That would be up to the manager.

now that you've gone and left and ... it's a day later. there's no way to tell.
You could have demanded they count the drawer however.
But now that it's over and done, there's no way to prove if you gave them a 20 or a 10.
and yes it IS possible to forget. cos I've done it myself.
