Here's what happened to me today at this location in Clifton New Jersey on Rt 46. I've been thinking about getting a haircut and color done to my hair for a while and I've been looking for places that were affordable. I decided to check out Supercuts while I was in the plaza just to check out prices. The cuts were really cheap and that attracted me enough to want a cut. The color was $25+ I guess depending on the length of hair. So one of the stylists came up to me and asked me what I wanted and she said she couldn't do the color, then one of the other stylists said that she could. Mind you, I've been dying and cutting my own hair because I trust myself more to do it and boy was I right. So I tell her that I want to lighten my hair (my hair is black). I know it's difficult but I've done it with blonde dye out of the box. I figured an expert would know how to do it better. She said that they don't do double process which I guess it bleaching and then dying but she could make my hair two shades lighter. I have dyed hair at the bottom it's noticeable red, like you can see it and so I asked her if she could make it lighter than that and she said yes. She seemed trustworthy so I said sure. She gave me the pricing which was 50 dollars for color and 15.95 for cut. Throughout the whole process it was somewhat of a disaster. At first I admired the quick service how I could just walk in and get my hair done but the downside is, the attention was just not there. She cut my hair which was okay, I liked it so I was pleased. Then she proceeded to dye my roots it right after. She sat me somewhere else and told me to wait 15 min while she works on someone else. She comes back and dyes the rest of my hair and tells me to wait again. Finally, she rinses it out and boy was it rough. She asked me if I wanted it dried so I could see the results and I said sure. So she's seating me in front of the mirror and I can't help but notice that my hair hadn't change but then again it was wet so I gave it time. She started to blow dry my hair, again it was rough and I notice that my hair did not change color. It was my natural color, black (my natural hair is not jet black it already has some brownish undertones). It just looked like I got a cut. Right from the start I told her it didn't look like it was colored. She said it'll show in the sun but what's the point of that? I should've been noticeable lighter. Afterwards she was trying to convince me to buy products which I didn't care for since my hair was NOT colored. So at the checkout she charges me 89.95 for the whole thing. I finally told her I wasn't satisfied and so she brought me outside with a mirror to look....and like I thought it was black. Nothing changed. So that's when I really got pissed. We went inside and I just couldn't believe how she was adamant about it being brown, it wasn't even dark brown. :/ My sister was there to support me so she asked to speak to a supervisor who of course wasn't there. The lady then went to the back and came back to say that she would not charge me for the color, the final price will be $35.95. So I said fine. I gave her my credit card and she had me sign a receipt. During this, process a co-worker of hers tells her that the credit line is down. And this chick pretends that my order didn't go through. I was hesitant to believe her because of the fact that her other coworker said it went through and I signed a receipt. The lady said no it didn't go through. The receipt to confirm the price. So they tell me to go to an atm to pay them cash and to leave my driver's license with her a somewhat of a deposit....and guess what? On my bank account there is $39.95 pending from SUPERCUTS. I believe she did this on purpose. I'm calling tomorrow to get this resolved.

Be more respectful to their customers especially because we're paying for their service. If someone is dissatisfied, do something about it. Don't say take it or leave it, what kind of service is that? It's a person's hair for goodness sakes! It's not like a product or food dish that can easily be replaced...and this is not even the customer's fault. YOU did this to their hair. We have every right to be upset. Lastly, don't go out of your way to manipulate someone and trick someone to get more money which in this case, the person did.

I should be happy about the cut and just leave it at that, right? But
I just don't know why she said it would be noticeably lighter which it
was in fact not. And I still have to go back to NJ to get my refund
because she charged me twice. It was the overall experience that
wasn't great in my opinion and an decent haircut doesn't make up it
all better.

First, you're not going to find expert colorists at Supercuts.

Second, there are two basic and separate things you can do when
coloring hair: (1) remove color or lighten by bleaching, and (2) add
color back by dying.

To lighten or highlight black hair, you really do need both processes.
Just adding color to black will not lighten the hair. And just
bleaching will not give you a pleasing color.

Glad they gave you a nice haircut and didn't charge for the
ineffective color!
