Text messages from T-Mobile.com

Yesterday, I added a line to my T-Mobile family plan account. The phone is for my daughter. Last night, she registered the phone on T-Mobile.com. The password for the account was sent to her as a text message. This happened twice, as she believed that the first time the process failed. Imagine my surprise when I check my account this morning and find that I have been charged for two text messages! These originated from T-Mobile. You guys are acting unethically if you send out messages about your services and then charge for the priviledge of receiving them. You do not allow for the blocking of text messages, but this goes to a new low in sleaze. I am under a contract with you, so I have little recourse, but I will be letting my friends and legislators know that this type of business policy should be prohibited.

Stop this unethical practice.

They did this to me too and they will keep sending you alerts when
your bill is due and then paid. You've got to call them or go to their
website to turn the text msg. feature off or you'll keep seeing the
charges.

Wow! That's as bad as charging minutes to call Customer Service from
the phone.

I think Sprint does this too. I have Cingular and I think if I
initiate a TXT or another user (cell phone) initiates it, I get
charged. But I think there is a clause that when they send me notices
that my service is changing or my bill is due that they don't charge
because THEY sent it.

Gee, maybe I better go check my bill - now I'm paranoid about it!

My big beef with Cingular is that if a caller opts to leave a numeric
message (page) on the phone, it is charged as a TXT message. I have
had to remind people over and over to just leave a voice mail rather
than entering their callback number.

But seriously, when the message comes through from the service
provider and then they charge for it, that is kind of shady. I mean,
who isn't going to check that message?

Not sure what the answer is, but I hope you get some resolution.

I must be special. I have been with T-Mobile and I have never
received a text message other than the ones I received from Jamster
(another story), but they got refunded to me by Jamster, and I also
received a credit for this from T-Mobile also. I also receive text
messages from T-Mobile, but I don't get charged for them. I reveiw
over my bill every month, the email form and the mailed one, so I
would know if they tried to sneak one in on me.

I know that the text messages cost .10 each. That is certainly clear.
What I object to is that they have sent a message with my daughter's
password which they expect me to pay for. I asked to have text
messaging disabled from my phones. They refused. I was told that
they needed to be able to alert me of changes etc. and these text
messages, from T-Mobile would be at no cost to me, but now, text
messages from T-Mobile.com do have a fee. As far as your comments
about it's only .20, maybe you would like to pay this fee for everyone
who has been asked to pay it? Yes I am annoyed, and by princple, I
stand by my original objection.

Me to... by CrazyRedHead Tue August 22, 2006 @ 10:57 AM

I have been a customer of T-Mobile since 12/7/05. I received one
text message from them when my phone was activated, one message on
6/29/06 telling me about an increase in the benefits of being a
T-Mobile Gold Member, and one message on 7/6/06 telling me about the
new rate of .05 per incoming text messages, beginning 8/15/06.

I believe that you might have a point if T-Mobile sent frequent
service text messages, charged for them, and gave you no option to
stop receiving them. However, I'm willing to bet that their fees are
listed quite clearly in your contract, and if they send out service
messages to the rest of their customers as infrequently as they do to
me, your bill will only be increased by somewhere around .20 a year.
Is that really enough to get you THIS upset?

In the time that I have been using T-Mobile, I have been extremely
pleased with the service in every way. I highly recommend them to
anyone.

That was no increase, it was a decrease by mizzzjulie Mon August 21, 2006 @ 7:57 PM
