Taco Bell employees not washing hands

My family and I went into the taco bell located at 7940 HIGHWAY 72 WEST Madison,AL 35758 on Sunday June 8th 2008 between 4 and 4:30pm. My three young children sat down and my husband and I were in line to order. We noticed that 5 to 6 employees were sitting outside the side doors smoking, there was only two employees and the manager inside. One of the male employees that was outside came back inside and we noticed that he was wearing gloves. He walked into the kitchen and started cooking again, while wearing the same gloves he was wearing outside.

My husband said something about it loudly, the manager looked at us but did not make the employee wash his hands.

We decided to take our family somewhere else. We ate at this place many times but not anymore.

You need to make sure your employees, including managers, wash their hands. It is not acceptable behavior for someone who works with food to not wash their hands.

There's a Subway near us where one of the employees apparently
believes the gloves are to protect his hands rather than not to spread
germs. He fiddles with his visor, hikes up his pants, wipes off his
brow all while wearing the disposible gloves, uses them to make a
sandwich, takes them off to ring the person up and then puts the SAME
pair back on. It is disgusting and contaminates ALL of the containers
of meatd, cheeses and condiments he touches. People are apparently
clueless. YUCK!

From the Madison County Website:
Environmental Health Division
256-539-3711 ext. 8726 or 256-533-8726
301 Max Luther Drive, Hsv 35811

Trained environmentalists review, inspect and monitor a large number
of installations and products to help ensure a safe environment. They
issue permits to restaurants, motels, hotels, septic tanks, etc. If
citizens have questions or complaints concerning environmental matters
they should contact this department.

I think they get complacent while wearing them when they should not
only still be washing their hands but also changing those gloves.
What's the point of them if they are going outside wearing them?

You should also contact your local health department and file a
complaint with them. They will make a spot check to this restaurant
and may just catch them in the act of going outdoors and not changing
their gloves when coming back in.

Also one of our local televsion stations has a segment called "Dirty
Dining" and the area restaurants just pray that this station does not
find anything wrong because they will televise it and it will cause a
decline in customers. (I am talking dirty kitchens, employees not
washing hands, rodents/insect infestations - things of that nature).

Perhaps going to the counter, pointing on what you saw in a calm voice
would be more effective that Yelling something about it loudly.

You are right to point it out, but sometimes the way you approach it
will have better results.

Good Day

Gross! And what dork wears their food-handling gloves outside for
their smoke break?
