Poor Experience with Taco Bell's "Fourth Meal"

Posted Tue November 6, 2007 12:00 pm, by Joey C. written to Taco Bell

I am writing you this letter because I recently had a very bad experience at my local Taco Bell. I go to this restaurant frequently and normally have a good experience, but sadly this was not the case last night.

My roommate and I were up late (it was like after 2, we'd watched all the late shows) and knowing this location is supposedly open "until 1AM or later" and Taco Bell does that "Fourth Meal" thing we decided to head down there when we got hungry. My roommate wanted Nachos Bell Grande with the steak and I wanted a couple of Crunchwrap Supreme with beans instead of beef. (Taco Bell is supposed to be able the substitute beans for any of their meats in an item.) We knew the dining room would be closed since it was so late so we went to the drive-thru. They didn't take our order at the speaker but told us to drive on around. When we got to the window the lady acted really irritated and said all they had were drinks??? We asked if they were still open and she said yes but that they had cleaned everything up already, and did we just want drinks? I did ask if they were trying to close up and the lady snapped "no not for at least an hour". If they'd been about to close we would have simply left.

Finally she agreed to make our food. We placed our order and she said since we had some "special items" it would take awhile and that we had to leave the drive-thru and park which was fine. We paid and I asked her to please put plenty of hot sauce in our bags. She got real irritated again and said it was 2 per customer unless we wanted to pay extra, so I ended up giving her another dollar and asked her to give us a handful of sauce packets. (This is why I like being able to go inside, we can get all the sauce we want without having to pay an extra fee. ) Anyway we waited in the parking lot for 10 minutes and when they finally brought our food out there were only a TOTAL of 2 sauce packs in our bags, not even the 2 per customer that the other person had said. I explained that we had paid extra for more sauce so without saying a word the lady went back in then came back out with only 2 more packets and this time it was just mild sauce. At that point we said forget it and went home with our good. The food was good and made exactly right, it was just not a good experience overall.

If the place is going to stay open late they should still make food as long as they are open, not clean everything up and try to just sell people drinks. If someone pays for extra sauce make sure they get it or better yet give people as much sauce as they ask for.

Wow! I have to beg Taco Bell not inundate me with hot sauce packets.
Perhaps my Taco Bell has hoarded their corporate supply.

you will definitley hear back i can almost assure you 100 percent.

I know this because I wrote a letter to Taco Bell back in september on
here, and received a call from the store i was writing about.
Granted, mine was a complimentary letter, but still at least you know
your letter will get to the store. It may take about 2 months or
so...but you will hear back.

They sound very "sauce protective". Maybe there's some kind of
shortage in the area. This could be serious.

Good letter.

I am especially glad to see you made sure to comment that the food was
good ~ you just didn't like the way you were treated. Your
description of events make it very clear what transpired and gives
your complaint more weight.

I would send a copy of your complaint to the GM of this particular
franchise to make sure the situation is addressed.

I hope you hear back from them.

I should send you some of my fire sauce packets. When they ask me if I
want sauce for the 3 or so things I get, they throw me about 20 of
them each time. I just save them in a bowl in my cabinet.

Good letter. Not demanding, just bringing up a good point...You may
also want to call back during the day and direct your concerns to the
General Manager. I'm sure he/she would be interested to know that the
employees were packing up to go an hour before closing.

I agree with the OP on this one. I think they should be prepared to
do business if they are open. In my town "cruising" is the only fun
things for high school aged kids to do, so they are all out in their
cars. At about midnight when we the police start to enforce curfew,
if you drive past Taco Bell, there is a line all the way around the
building and into an adjacent parking lot. It's like this EVERY
Friday night. I can only imagine what would happen if they did not
have any food ready to be served!

I hate when food places are stingy about condiments! Ooh it irritates
me. Anyway, I think you have a pretty valid complaint. I could
understand if they were near closing, but an hour before?

Your letter is very descriptive, without being overly so. And I also
like seeing letters that are free of insults. So... good job!

I have noticed that the Taco Bells around me have gone down the drain.
I only go there if I am craving food that has been sqeezed out of a
Tube.

Sounds like a legit complaint about the time and the charge for the
hot sauce.

Why not just call a manager in the morning?

I completely agree with your letter. If they were going to close in
five minutes, I'd be more inclined to see their point, but they're not
closing for an hour and they cleaned everything up?

And they actually made you pay for extra sauce? I've never had to pay
for extra sauce (and I get a lot of it), both in the dining room and
the drive-thru.

I hope you get a response from Taco Bell.

They probably hadn't had anybody for a while, so that's why they were
getting everything ready. At least your food was good.
I always get extra sauce packets and keep them at home for when they
forget to put the sauce in, or don't put enough in.

I'm in total agreement with you on that. I could see if they were
closing in a half hour or something, as you said. But an hour before
closing, they should at the very least a limited food menu.

The sauce packet problem however, i never heard of the whole charging
thing. I usually get extras when i go. I worked for a Taco Bell, and
we would have excess sauce packets...thats even with every person
getting at least 6 per order...
