Taco Bell Made Me Cry

Posted Sat February 4, 2006, by Julie T. written to Taco Bell

I wanted to make corporate aware of a horrible exprience I had tonight at Taco Bell. On our 1/31/06 9:18pm order, 2 cinnamon twists were left off. We realized it once at home. I mentioned it tonight on 2/4, less than a week later, very politely and had the receipt with me. The drive-thru lady said she would check with the manager. She did and in so many words rudely told me no. I told her I understood, could I get the manager's name. Deborah, the manager then came to the window. To make a long story shorter Deborah and the other lady made me feel like I was a bad person for even asking and that I should have been a mindreader and known that their policy was to call. All I expected was "I'm sorry that we left that off your order. Here are 2 cinnamon twists. In the future, if we make a mistake again, please call us" instead I left crying because of the way they spoke to me. I have never been treated so ugly and unprofessional before. All over a $1.89.

complain asap. the day of, right after the incident will be your best
bet. save your receipt or they will never believe you. this happens
and many people try to scam fast food, you have no clue. its not over
much money i know but to the restaurant that is their food cost. just
giving away food to everyone that says they were missing food but had
no receipt would make them poor, because teenagers and other people
would do it all the time if they could get away with it.

You're in tears over $1.89? You're kidding, right?

I don't think the drive through is the best place to try to resolve a
problem with a past order. The drive through is designed for speedy no
frills service. By using it for a problem, you delayed their line and
that may have been one reason why they were rude.

Isn't it pretty common knowledge that you are supposed to call
whichever fastfood slop shack messed up your order ASAP. This for a
few reasons;

#1 the incident is still fresh in peoples heads, in your case they may
have remembered the order 20 minutes later and remembered having 2
extra twists sitting under the lights. This way the manager can
confirm it with the employee who handled the order.

#2 like everyone has been saying FRAUD. Scammers cost businesses a
ton of money each year. The longer it's been since you went to taco
bell, the bigger the chance that there is no one to confirm your story
(or that you were even a customer there then).

If this is going to become such a big deal to you, then you seriously
have other things to worry about than a couple of people from Taco
Bell saying No we wont replace your supposedly left off cinnamon
twists that we have no way of knowing were even ordered or payed for,
let alone not given to you. Sure why don't we open ourselves up to
every scammer in the known world.

Well you are very sensitive. Anyways like everyone else said, you
should have gone the day you went to get your cinnamon twists. You
didnot exactely explain what Deborah said to you taht was rude.

You should've immediately called them upon noticing you were missing
something.

Why didn't you check your order before you left the drive thru. All
of this could have been avoided had you checked. And if you cry over
a measly 1.89 then I would hate to see you in a real crisis.

I hardly consider what you have described as a "horrible experience".
You claim you were treated "ugly and umprofessional" because you
didn't get what you asked for. Expecting Taco Bell to replace items
you claim you didn't receive with your order a week prior is
unreasonable on your part and the fact that you would cry over this is
worrisome to say the least.

The time to bring this to Taco Bell's attention was the day it
happened - not a week later. Anyone could save their receipt and go
back a week later saying they didn't get this or that item. You can't
expect them to take your word for it and give you free food. And I'm
sorry, if this made you cry, you have some growing up to do.

another thing ....

"instead I left crying because of the way they spoke to me. I have
never been treated so ugly and unprofessional before. All over a
$1.89."

I work for McDonalds... if youve ever heard the way the customers
speak to us youd be leaving hysterical. Sorry this may sound harsh
but i find this complaint unjust. you waited to long to let them know
and got what you were entitled to. NOTHING.

Please explain why you waited a week to notify them of an issue with
an order? Then explain to me why you feel youre entitled to any
compesnation a week later. If this was so important to have fixed it
should have been dealt with the same night.

Let me get this straight...they made you cry over $1.89 and you think
they are the ones that are being unreasonable? Don't get me wrong,
I'm not saying that you are wrong to complain that something was left
off of your order. Those people who work in fast food restaurants
serve hundreds of customers every day and it is virtually impossible
to do this without making a single mistake. Although you should have
been entitled to receive compensation for the food that was left off
of your order, you certainly should have called and let them know. If
you will humor me as I tell you this short story of my days as a sub
shop manager, you will understand why they couldn't just give you the
item on your next visit.

I would on occasion have someone come in and order food, and they
would tell me that on their last visit we forgot to give them an item
with their order, made an item wrong, etc. and could they have a free
replacement today? I would not do this for them simply because there
are too many scammers out there that will do this in an attempt to get
something free.

Now, if they call me and explain that their order was not done
correctly, they must give me their name and home address. Then I will
mail them coupons to use on their next visit. In order to get the
free food they must give me their correct address. Think about
this...if they are scamming us they are not goig to want to give me
that information to keep on record. Then if there is a pattern
of the same person constantly calling and complaining I know they are
just scamming us out of free food.

If we just hand over food when they walk in, they could get away with
this quite a few times before we realized what they were doing. We
have several locations around my city along with several different
managers at each location. That's a lot of food they could get away
with. Do you understand now why they couldn't just hand over the item
to you?

I have to agree with the other comment. How are they to know that
anything was left off your your order from a week before, if you
didn't call them at the time to let them know. All she did was let
you know what to do if you should run into a similar situation in the
future (which, I think would be common sense). The drive thru serves
hundreds of people a day. They probably don't remember you or what
you ordered a week ago.

This happened very regularly, when I worked fast food. If people had
some verification of a missing item, then we would replace it. Don't
blame the restaurant, blame all the scammers over the years that have
forced businesses to require proof of missing or incorrect items.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I have to ask...are you old
enough to drive?
