Defective Pregnancy tests

Target brand, up and up, pregnancy tests are defective! I had two of the three pack that I purchased not readable at all then come up as positive. The result came up very odd; not trusting them I took an Answer brand test which was negative. I decided to look up the tests online and found 27 heartbreaking reviews of false positives in just the last couple of months.
I would like a recall of these tests. Pregnancy is a very emotional experience, and causing people to experience these emotions due to a defective product is irresponsible!
I do not understand how Target has not become aware of the situation sooner, does your quality control monitor customer satisfaction? This is shamefull.

Just had the same problem tonight. I had a weird feeling about buying a $5 pregnancy test and after reading all the reviews about duds (which is what I had) and false positives I am just going to go to a doctor. Getting an unclear answer is unacceptable.

In August, I took a pregnancy test where it has the crossing lines; one vertical line you're not pregnant, two lines that cross, you are. Well, I could...almost, kind of, barely...see a line crossing the vertical line. I went to my local Walgreens to buy another test and decided to bring this faint-line test to see if the pharmacist could help me read it because "if there is ANY line, it is positive" written on the box was not enough for me. Now, I know pharmacists are not doctors, but the pharmacist told me that, while it appeared to be positive, pregnancy tests can come up positive after 5-10 minutes, even if you are not pregnant and that they are not designed for reading the results this late after taking it.
This kind of sounds like what you experienced. However, as a previous responder noted, results from a pregnancy test should always be discussed with your doctor. They are not designed to be your eye into the future as to whether or not you are pregnant and, who knows? With how many women experience miscarriages without knowing they were pregnant and thinking it is just a heavy period...I don't mean to sound morbid but this could have been the case, too.

Defective & pregnancy test are words that should never be in the same sentence! Target should re-evaluate this manufacturer that produces this product for them and take these off the shelves until they are proven to work correctly.

This is something I wouldn't be able to trust to a store bought test, but would rather have done by my doctor's office. Yes, the at home tests are cheaper, but there are many clinics that will do free pregnancy testing and the results are more trust worthy. Besides, if the at home test was positive, the OB-GYN would most likely administer another one at the first appointment anyway.

Now that must be a crummy feeling. Here you are trying to find out if you are pregnant and the test you bought does not work.
I am not sure how long ago you bought these but if you still have the receipt I suggest taking them back to the store and either getting a refund or exchanging them for another test.
You voice a concern about quality control and question how they have not become aware. Well, they may never become aware unless you bring this issue to their attention.

the store?
i bought a pregnancy test when i suspected i was pregnant with my first child. it was around $10 and i was a waitress at the time. i didn't have $10 to throw down the drain.
i took the test, and i was certain that i didn't do it wrong...how hard is it to pee on a stick, ya know?
NOTHING came up...no lines at all..no results.
i called the store, spoke to a manager, told them the test was defective...
and they told me to bring in my receipt and i could get another one. i did just that and the next test i got worked just fine.

27 "heartbreaking reviews of false positives" out of how many tests? 27 could be statistically insignificant if we had the whole picture.

however, at the end of the day, the home test is just the beginning of the journey. Every test I have ever taken has said that any results should be followed up with a medical professional for confirmation.
There are a number of reasons tests like these give false readings - everything from individual hormonal imbalances to plain old user error.
& did you know that sometimes even the more comprehensive blood tests can read false as well?
And also, from a strictly statistical standpoint, 27 out of the THOUSANDS of tests that are manufactured and sold under the Up&Up brand is negligible. I know that is of little consolation when you're trying to get pregnant, but personally I'd be relieved if the error rate was that low.

Search the reviews before you buy, not after
