Goodwill adjustment

I opened an account with Target back in 1995. It was the first credit card I ever had. Recently I've started shopping around for a mortage deal. To my detriment Target is posting a 30 day late charge in 2006 on my credit reports. I sent them a email requesting a goodwill adjustment. Their reply was a resounding NO. It's one late payment and its scheduled to drop off in a few months anyway, so I don't understand their unwillingness to do this.

Remove the 30 day late on my credit reports, so I can get the best interest rate on my mortgage.

Why should you be given a goodwill adjustment and not everyone else?
If you were late or failed to make your payments ontime, you are
reaping your rewards. Enjoy the mark on your report. Why should I
suffer from higher payments and other fees and for that matter any
other person who carries a credit card with them because you decide to
be a deadbeat and make a late payment.

You can't change history but you can wait for it to cycle off.

I asked my fiance if he had a credit card & had made a late payment,
would he ask the credit card company to take the late payment
information off his credit report.

He said no.

Good for Target.

plus... try searching this site to see how many people as for
"goodwill" exceptions.

sometimes the problem with this is that everyone wants to magically
change their credit history when... there's a specific reason why said
history exists for everyone to begin with.

Why should they remove it? Where you late?

Your mortgage company should get a fair assessment of your credit
history, its a big deal.

Their unwillingness to do this is because you were late, and you didnt
care about it until you needed it to go away.

I understand that this is frustrating for you, but any company HAS to
follow the fair credit reporting act.

The problem with being sympathetic to the customers needs & feelings
is that the person or the company the customer speaks to could get
penalized for doing that. It is not a good idea for the employee or
the company to get personally involved in a customers problems.

However, the employee & the company can be empathetic to the customers
problems. When we empathize with others, we understand their feelings
without getting involved in them.

I've read on many credit boards where they've removed multiple late
payments, and have even removed negative tradelines, so I don't think
that was TOO much to ask.

I don't think it was TOO much to ask, either. Nor do I think they were TOO by Steve OH (IO) Wed August 22, 2012 @ 9:29 PM

They are unwilling to do this because it's an accurate report.

Dont worry. It will drop off in a few months anyway.
