Up, Up and Away at Target!

I recently visited my local Target and noticed that your brand merchandise is now called "Up and Up".
As I walked through the store and saw the new name on different items in various departments, I started to wonder what exactly "Up and Up" means. Could it mean that Target is on the up and up? Or that quality has gone up? Or, as my son suggested, prices are going up?
I am curious as to the thought process behind this new name and what exactly it conveys to the customer.
Thanks.

Reply from Target (that was quick!):
Dear Venice,
Thanks for contacting Target via PlanetFeedback about our up & up line of products.
Throughout the spring and fall of 2009, the look of over nine hundred Target owned brand items in over forty different categories will change to up & up.
According to guest research, the name, up & up conveys a feeling of optimism, while the packaging maintains a fresh, simple and high-quality design, a signature of Target.
The bold graphic design can be easily spotted–just look for a colorful arrow in the lower left-hand corner of each product. The arrow will quickly help you find your favorite trusted Target brand.
Thanks for asking about what’s new at Target. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
Kate

"Up and Up" conveys a feeling of optimism!..
Okay, that's a good explanation. I think they actually did get it from the song.. Up, up and away in my beautiful balloon!

I buy the Up & Up "brand" quite often because in many cases it IS cheaper than the name brand. For example, Christian used to wear Pampers, but Target recently raised the price of a box from $18.99 to nearly $20. The UP brand is about $14 for the same amount.
Is it the same thing? Eh....I think I like Pampers better (I certainly like the Sesame Street design better than the polka dots), but for $6 less I'll live with polka dots. C certainly could care less. :)
I do use the UP brand in other things like paper towels, wipes, kleenex, and cleaning stuff and have been pleased.

Not sure for the reason for this new name, but I will say that so far I've bought a few Up & Up products and have been quite pleased with the quality- in particular the paper towels and disinfecting wipes for the counter. The packaging looks super generic and you're right- the name is dumb, but I will continue to buy these products due to the price and quality.

From my reading, they wanted to use something that would stand out and make people curious. Looks like it worked (;
Personally, I think the name stinks. But I'm not much for marketing.
