Target Is Missing A Gazebo

My wife and I received a flyer dated for Aug 2. In that flyer they advertised a 10X10 gazebo for $129.00. We went to the Kingston, MA store first thing in the morning hoping to get the deal. After speaking to the clerk and him calling another clerk they determined by looking on their hand held computer that the store never had the item. He called another store in Wareham, MA because it was "newer and bigger". They never had any either. We then went to customer service to see what was going on. She called the Abington, MA store and they told her the same thing. They never had any. We were then told that there could have been 1 gazebo out of 100 stores and they still would advertise to everyone. Both clerks and a manager told us that was a common practice and we should let someone know it is a pretty crappy thing to be doing to the public. For us, our family and friends we'll be going where we know they will have what we are looking for without having to travel or call store to store to find out they never had the item.
I would like the genuis who decides these advertising schemes to find the gazebo we were looking for and ship it to the Kingston store or our house. Let Target pay for the shipping and handling as reimbursement for our time, money and aggravation.

Most store ads state someplace on them that not all merchandise is available in all stores.

I am suprised they didn't offer a replacement (of equal or higher value). Might be a solution to keep a customer loyal.

Yeah, like other people said, ads are created a few months in advance.
Perhaps it was a vendor issue. A couple of ads ago, my company advertised a lovely crib that we never got any stock in. We couldn't even order it! Turns out that the manufacturer totally dropped the ball on us and hadn't even sent any down into the region. I think we finally just gave up on that crib and pulled the display off the floor.
It's listed as in stock on Target's website and has some unfavorable reviews, but all in all, looks like a nice piece. If I was you and wanted to get it on-line, I would ask Target to refund the shipping. It's only fair, right?

Those ads are usually created MONTHS before they hit the stores and even with printing and shipping, they're in the stores hands a week or two before the sale starts.
A lot can happen in that time. Vendors have issues that cause them to miss shipments. Carriers don't get the merchandise out and distributed in time. It's not that some "genius" kept you from getting a gazebo and I don't understand how that equates to you getting the item shipped to your door, free of charge. (Esp. a large, likely heavy item like this!)
Instead of having to worry about reimbursement for "time, money and aggravation," you also could have called the local stores before you left. Whenever there is a really hot item on sale for dirt cheap, I always call first before I waste the effort on going out to look for it. If they say they don't have them/never did/probably won't get them, all I lost was maybe 5 minutes on the phone.
Certainly better than the outcome here!

it's incredibly frustrating to have to drive or phone all over the place in an effort to buy what is advertised locally.

This is true, the General Merchandise manager chooses which seasonal items to sell, based on location.
There are pages and pages of things to order to choose from.
What sells at one location will not sell at another.
I can personally sell at my location a $400 table with umbrella set because my store is in a higher end neigborhood.
The store 10 miles from me, cannot sell that high dollar item, so they do not order it.
I know on the bottom of our ads it says, not all items available at every store, or something to that effect.
Good Day
