Coupon policy and extreme rudeness.

I was in Target today and tried to use coupons for products that I definitely purchased. (97¢ Hefty bags with a $1 coupon, 99¢ Bic pens with a $1 coupon.) Some of the coupons had to be adjusted down to the price of the product since the coupon is for more than the product. The young cashier that I had said she couldn't adjust the coupons and I said yes, I have the coupon policy with me since I had problems in January. The cashier next aisle over told her to switch her registers. The "cashier" or "manager want to be" refused to take my coupons if they had to be adjusted even after showing her the policy. I asked to call corporate and did so. The customer service agent said yes to adjust the coupons but this cashier said there was no way to take the coupon. She showed me the screen...either accept or decline and I guess since she thought the money was coming out of her own pocket she would only refuse the coupons (for my legitimate purchases.) She also refused a Target store coupon as well since it wouldn't scan!!! I asked for the manager and a young boy said he was the manager but didn't speak. He let the cashier do all the talking and tell me "her" store policy. This cashier also called up another manager to watch her register. (red haired man that accepted my coupons previously without any problems and even told me "Good Job! on getting my total so low!) She said she had to leave to go take care of a "CRAZY COUPON LADY." Yes, my 2 sons heard her. I do not think I have ever seen this girl in my life. I believe I have only been in this Target store 6 - 7 times.
I would like to have nice, courteous knowledgeable managers running this store. I would like to see registers that communicate with the cashiers to tell them to adjust the coupon etc. not just accept or decline. I would like to see a consistent coupon policy on board at Target. Listen to your customers. There is a big problem with accepting coupons in your stores. I would also like a cashier that doesn't say "unfortunately" one million times so that she doesn't have to adjust the coupon.
When this cashier told me that she would not take the Target coupon, I told her that I did not want my purchase. I said that I would like to have my other coupons back that she took off at the register. While the girl left to go get my coupons, the young boy store manager said "I am going to have to ask you to leave." I said why did you say that to me and he said "We can't do anything for you here today." (I was waiting for my coupons and I was going to leave with my 2 sons. I was not loud.???)
I do not intend to step foot into this Target again. This is a very nice store with very good prices and sales...this "management team" was ridiculous. I have not been shoppping at Walmart since Target came to town here...I have been telling everyone how much better Target is than Walmart....Not anymore!

Why don't stores just do without coupons and electronically take off discounts instead? It will save many headaches, fights, arguments, and mostly jobs!

of "No" does not = rude. It's just not like that.
The situation is this:
It's not that the cashier was acting like "the money was coming out of her own pocket." However, since the transaction would be logged under her id (which is actually encoded on every receipt),if she was caught accepting invalid coupons or forcing through coupons that the system has flagged (which most stores say you can't have coupons that exceed the item amount)she would, at the least, be written up for fraud and, at worst, fired.
Is it really worth a $0.99 coupon to cost someone their job?

OMG...this is really weird.
I was in ou local Target on Friday and a woman wanted to do the same...purchase some items that were less than the coupon amount. The manager came over, showed the cashier how to do this and she had no problem with it. In fact the cashier even told the customer if she has a problem next time, and the cashier she is line for does not know she will be more than happy to help show her how to do this transaction.
Wow...Target has sure changed...at least in our area.
Every one of the cashiers are nice, speak first to say good morning, good day etc and then actually smile when they give your total.
Amazing...maybe you should either move to my area or Target should get a new management team at your location...:)

I can understand your frustration with the coupon policy at your local Target. It sounds like you used to be able to use coupons that had a value of more than the cost of the item. Therefor you get the item for free. Now the managers refuse to allow you to do that. I agree that they should have a consistent policy at all Target stores. What I don't agree with is trying to use coupons that have a value greater than the cost of the item. None of the stores I have worked for would have allowed this. The store is actually losing money when customers are allowed to do this. Just my opinion.

This is customer service at its worst. The "management team" can make or break a store, and this location sounds like a store I'd avoid at all costs, even if it meant going to Walmart!
Every time I read letters like this, I realize how wonderful my Target is. I have never had a problem with anything since it opened. The employees go out of their way to make shopping as pleasant as possible. They'll even make a price adjustment on the customer's word right at the register. And if you're buying something with a coupon attached, they always make sure to remove the coupon and apply it toward the purchase. It's too bad that all Targets can't live up to those standards.
