Target's refusal to stand behind a defective Aurora shredder

Posted Wed August 16, 2006 10:46 pm, by ALLEN G. written to Target.com

Write a Letter to this Company

On March7,2006 I purchased the Aurora AS200CD shredder advvertised on line as a "heavy duty shredder".The shredder fell apart after 7 weeks.I wound up in the hospital and tried to return the shredder to East Hanover N.J. Target Store 13 weeks after my purchase.I had been told be Julie P. in customer support that Target would take back this defective shredder. The manager at the East Hanover,N.J. store refused to take back the shredder. She referred me back to cucstomer support who told me that they didnot know how to contact the manufacturer!

Take back the defective product allowing me a credit.

Target stands behind it's products for 90 days with a valid receipt.
After that you have to go through the manufacturer. Why should Target
stand behind a product after it's policy? Target didn't make the
shredder.

If this return were that important to you, you would have tried your
best to return the shredder within the 6 weeks after the item went
defective and the time you tried to return it.

i work for targs and i know in fact that if you go to guest service
and you have a problem with a return and its past 90 days they can
give you a card with a 800 number to call for manufacturs defects

Since the fact is that the shredder "fell apart" well after the 90
days had elapsed in which you could have returned the product, the
fact that you were in the hospital is irrelevant.

Furthermore, I believe your gripe is with the company that actually
manufactured the shredder - not the store that innocently sold it to
you.

After doing 60 seconds of research on the internet I found that your
shredder is manufactured by Aurora Electronics in England:

Aurora Electronics (UK) Ltd.
Unit 2, Shires Industrial Estate
Essington Close,
Lichfield
Staffordshire
WS14 9BW
United Kingdom

Fax: 01543 252827
Email: sales@aurora-ltd.co.uk

You have a better chance of getting a satisfactory resolution by
contacting them directly. Target is under no obligation to return an
item, defective or not, when their 90 day time period has passed. Your
complaint should be with the manufacturer. If you're savvy enough to
find a shredder online you should be savvy enough to locate the
manufacturer (contact information was probably also in the manual that
came with the shredder).

Store policy states that they will allow you to return items within 90
days. 13 weeks=91 days. Too bad.
