Cocaine found on my new jogging stroller...

Posted Tue February 28, 2006 10:51 am, by Becky R. written to Target.com

Write a Letter to this Company

I recently purchased an In Step jogging stroller from Target.com. When taking a short trip into the Statue of Liberty we were stopped by security to do a standard search of our items. The stroller was searched and showed positive for traces of cocaine. Eventually they allowed me to continue after being searched and giving my driver's license information. I had only had the stroller for a month and I do not and have never used cocaine. The traces must have been on the stroller from packaging or from the origin. I feel this is serious because not only was it an inconvience to me but, small traces of cocaine could certainly harm small children if injested after touching the stroller and putting fingers in their mouths.

I'm not sure how Target can handle this but, the manufacturer should be informed of thsi situation to remedy it.

Call me Crazy but if i had a child, the FIRST thing after taking it
out of the package would be to CLEAN the item. So that was "your bad".
In my opinion, disinfecting is a part of life when you become a parent
especially, and ESPECIALLY now a days. But don't worry, I'm not gonna
judge your parenting skills because this could have been a
one-time-oopsie.

What I'd really like to know is, what kind of filthy slob has a
stroller for a month and has never cleaned it. You can't tell me you
didn't see some of that "cocaine" on there.

Thanks for finding it. So I left it in a stroler huh? :D

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but I think your kid is leading
a double life.

I'm sorry, I call shenanigans on this one. What kind of test exactly
was done? I've been to the Statue of Liberty and several similar
locations, such as the Kennedy Space Center, and the Liberty Bell, and
I was searched in one form or another at all of those places. But no
one ever did any kind of CSI style trace on me, the closest I ever got
was being wanded while drug sniffing dogs stood by. And if they found
cocaine on you, I seriously don't think they would have just let you
go. This just doesn't ring true to me. Are you accusing Target of
smuggling cocaine with their strollers? And why write this letter to
Target? If there was cocaine in your stroller, it seems more likely
that it came from the manufacturer, not the retailer.

You were in posession of cocaine with a baby and they just said, "Oh
well, we'll let her go"?

How did it show positive for traces of cocaine? Did they swab it or
use a narcotics dog?

Anyway, on a similar note, anyone hear about the 2nd grader in Philly
that brought bags of coke to school? Some of the kids she handed it
out to ate it. Crazy!

You had it for a month and it "must have come from the packaging"? I
don't think you're going to get anywhere with this.

Here goes:
I haven't been to the statue but their web site states that strollers
are not allowed in the statue. Assuming they searched you on the
grounds, why would they search for cocaine? Explosives for sure. But
if they do search for drugs, found drugs, why would they let you go?
Trace amounts of cocaine and you have a small child, this doesn't
sound logical. Lastly - if it was cocaine - you could have picked up
trace amounts anywhere as the previous writer stated.

Also, why was this written to Target.com. It's very unlikely that the
web site has anything to do with this. Even if someone was doing
lines of Coke on the stroller, Target's shipment warehouse is shipping
sealed boxes, no?

If anything, this letter should go to In Step, where the stroller was
made.

I'm assuming that you've turned the stroller over to the police. If
you kept your kid in it, then it's clear that you don't care much
about this. You carried your child around the SoL and then went and
got another stroller, right?

I wonder if there was actually cocaine. Likely not. Most likely
there was a benign substance that tests the same as cocaine. Or,
there was an error on the test equipment. Or this was a training
drill. Or any number of other things.

I've been stopped at airport security for having explosives. A
clean-down of the testing machine always turns up nothing. In other
words, it was an error. And it happens quite often.

And, if there were traces, I wonder how much.

Turns out that lots of stuff has traces of cocaine. Money, for
example. http://www.snopes.com/business/money/cocaine.asp
