TD Bank is ripping people off

Posted Tue August 2, 2011 7:22 pm, by Tajekumar K. written to TD Bank

Write a Letter to this Company

On 8-1-2011 I deposited a payroll check into my checking account. I asked the teller to deposit this payroll check as cash against my savings account. Both accounts are with TD Bank. The teller complied with my request and did so. When i received my receipt slip it reflected the deposit into my checking as an available fund. After leaving the bank i then when online to the TD Bank site to view my accounts. I saw that my checking account reflected the deposit and the indeed the funds were available. I then proceeded to transfer money from my TD Bank checking account to my TD Bank savings account. The following day i noticed that i was hit with a $70.00 over draft fee. When i spoke with customer service they told me that there is nothing that they can do and that i should not believe the receipt that was given to me by the teller or my online account info. Why in the first place would you charge a customer of your bank an over draft fee for moving money from one in house account to another in house account? Why the the teller not tell me that the cash would not be available even thou that is what i requested and that is what the receipt indicated? What kind of bank is this to rob its costumer to blatantly and tell me even thou all the information that was provide to me indicated these funds were available that they really weren't? If i had known that i would have waited the extra day and transfered my money then. I have had this account ever since they were Commerce Bank but i feel since the change they don't care about the costumers anymore and its time to find another bank. They need to refund me my $70.00 for a bogus charge.

TD Bank needs to refund my $70.00.

You're spot on and righteous in your complaint. This type of crap
happens all the time... the banks rely on the fact that you will not
"catch it" or pay attention and just deal with it like a banking
victim. THAT'S how they make most of their money. There was an entire
article written up that I will find and post that talks about the
revenue generated by fees being CRUCIAL to the banking industry to
stay in business. It is a documented protocol strategy. I ALWAYS ask
to have any questionable fees removed... I ALWAYS state my case until
I have beat a dead horse and usually if the fees are at all
questionable, unjustified or unethical (even in my own eyes and I can
argue the point effectively)... then 99% of the time they remove the
fees. No one wants to have a law suit or multiple and gaining momentum
"Bad Consumer Reports" which is your power in the war against
institutional greed... like a version of a CREDIT REPORT for them!
Just like PayPal.. who is neither a bank or basically anything... you
have to take them to the mat or they will rob you.

Wachovia accepts my direct deposit and it is available immediately,
for withdrawal, debit, or paying bills online.

Direct Deposit and MS Cunningham the Banker... by QueenofSwords Sat May 5, 2012 @ 7:19 PM

whether you asked or not, a CHECK can never be deposited as CASH. All
checks, including payroll, are subject to holds of up to 30 days. No
exception.

All banks also have WRITTEN disclaimers on the ATM's and on most all
documentation stating that "Funds deposited may not be available for
immediate withdrawl."

You deposited a check and managed to transfer money that was not
confirmed. You got hit for fees. While I personally think the teller
must have been a moron to tell you it COULD be done that way, but at
the end of the day, it's YOUR money and you need to know what is
happening with it.

Why not just make the savings deposit at the same time you made the
checking deposit? You could have given the teller two deposit slips
with the payroll check.
