Account Issue

I tried to have cable hooked up at my new apartment a week ago. I was told that I had an outstanding bill for $44.50 from June 2001. The issue I have with this is that I have never had Time Warner Cable before. And in June of 2001 I was not even in the state of Missouri. I explained all of this to the customer Service rep and was told that if I could prove that I was not in the state at the time of the charges then they would erase them. I brought in a copy of my military orders and other varius document showing that I was in North Carolina at that time. I recieved a call back from time warner stating that I had proven that I was not in the state at the time, but because the address on my driver's Lisence matched that of the account that I was still responsible. Again I have an issue with this. When I joined the Army that address was my home of record, so when I renewed it through the mail that is the address they put on my new lisence. I have not idea who would have possibly set up this account in my name. Just because it was most likely a family member shouldn't make it okay. I understand that it's just 44.50 but this is not my bill. It's a matter of pricipal. They refused to show me the signature on the order, but I can guarentee that it's not mine.

I would like Time Warner to fix this account so that I can recieve cable services, and possibly require installers to check ID so that issues like this do not occur.

Wow this is pretty ridiculous. How is it they can charge you just by
your address. Who's to say someone else wasn't living there and would
have thier name, social security number, id number or phone number on
the account.

Don't let them get away with it, Mike!

You know, Mike, most cable bills are contractual issues, and governed
by contract law. Typically, the statute of limitation on a
contractual issue is in the neighborhood of 3 years, so that you can't
attempt to enforce the contract after that time. You might be able to
push that angle with Time Warner.
