When I moved to my new home in Saratoga Springs, NY I called Time Warner to transfer my service. I have been a customer for over 16 years. I was told of a contract I could enter into that would protect me from the occassional price increases. It is a two year price lock contract. It sounded great and I entered into it. It automatically renewed in Feb of 2011. That was fine because it was a decent enough price. In September of 2011 I began very, very ill. So ill infact, that I was removed from my job and on disability. I contacted Timewarner trying to reduce my monthly payment. I was told at that point that I could sever the contract but I faced a $ 150.00. If I can't afford the $ 224.00 a month for services , how can I afford a $ 150.00 penalty. Instead I downsized all the I could within the confines of my contract. So now my bill is $ 150.00 per month. I called again last night and spoke with a Mary. I explained my situation again and I could tell she was reading from a script...she tried to to upsell me??? I asked if it was possible given my loyalty and such if I could possibly have the penalty waived. I don't want to leave Time Warner, I just need to downsize. She said no and literally snickered.
I have been loyal to Time Warner, never late. I now find myself in a terrible financial position. I fail to understand the rationale of the penalty fee. It certainly isn't designed to retain patronage, instead it's more way to holding us hostage. I will hold up my end of the contract. I will struggle to keep it current, however, the second my contract is up, I will cancell all services and go to Verizon or Dish Network.... Nothing like kicking someone while they are down.

I wish only that Time Warner would allow me to sever the contact without pentalty and reduce my month bill.

So you want a contract that favors you until your circumstances
change, then you don't?

And GEEZ, you're ill and out of work, cancel the damn cable. What is
with people and thinking that cable is as important as electricity and
water?

If your paying $150.00 a month for service cancel it and pay the
$150.00 termination fee. If you cant afford it then make multiple
payments. Its better than not paying your monthly bill and letting it
add up.

And if your that strapped for cash why are you even considering
signing up for a new company. If you called me up and told me "I cant
pay my bill please help me, or I will sign with direct Tv or FIOS" I
would wonder why you couldnt pay my bill but you could pay theirs. It
isnt much cheaper, Direct TV for basic is about $120 and Fios is
around $100.00
