Refer-A-Friend department approves referral, then wildholds free airtime

Complaint: The TracFone Refer-A-Friend department has been purposely and willfully withholding free airtime PINs from me (the referrer) for referrals I sent out, which they approve, and send *only* to the people I refer.

After the new user activates their TracFone, the Refer A Friend department has been sending free airtime PINs *only* to new user, but neglect to send me (the referrer) my free minutes as well. They are purposely withholding my free minutes without offering any notification or explanation.

The Refer-A-Friend department's promotion, to reward both the referrer and newly activated TracFone user (that correctly submits their referral form) 120 minutes free airtime is being unfairly administered. They have decided to stop abiding by their own policy and promise!

Background: I have been a happy and loyal TracFone customer for 5 years and own 4 TracFones.

I post useful information about TracFone in the alt.cellular newsgroups.

Many readers of my posts ask questions about TracFone, which over time requires considerable effort to discuss and analyse the differences and advantages of TracFone over other prepaid companies on the market.

As a result, many ask me for Refer-A-Friend referrals, which I gladly send out.

I own 4 TracFones and use the serial numbers (ESNs) from all 4 TracFones (separately) when referring others. I use the same email address when sending referrals, but don't always use the same ESN.

Prior to two months ago, I would normally receive my free 120 airtime minutes (PINs) via email the same time the person I referred receive theirs.

The last couple of months, the Refer-A-Friend department has been sending the approved PINs to the new user (person I referred), but neglecting to send me my free airtime PINs. This has happened with several referrals on two different TracFones I own.

Its *not* an accident or a one time occurrence. Its done purposefully and repeatedly, without notification or explanation.

This complaint is not about TracFone, which I think is a good company with a good product and service.

This complaint is about their Refer-A-Friend department practice of approving submitted referrals, sending out free airtime minutes to the new TracFone activator, but withholding the free minutes from the referrer (me).

This practice is unfair and against the Refer-A-Friend department's own policy (to reward both the new TracFone activator and the referrer with 120 free airtime minutes for referring others to TracFone).

I want the TracFone Executive Resolution Department to be aware of the Refer-A-Friend department's unacceptable practices so they can alter and correct the problem.

I want to receive *all* of the free airtime from referrals I have made, that were approved by the Refer-A-Friend department, but unexplicably withheld.

Obviously the TracFone Executive Resolution Department isn't
responding or even reading posts to this website anymore.

I never received a response from them on my complaint.

The last time I had minor problem with my TracFone, the Exec. Res.
Dept. was very responsive and helpful.

I called the Refer-A-Friend Department again Monday on this issue.
The first RAF associate was giving me the run around. She stated I
was required to get a copy of the referral I sent out before they
could grant me the free airtime minutes.

The person I referred had already received their free minutes. They
had already deleted their referral form they received from TracFone.
I was unable to get a copy of the original referral form from them.

Every referral I send, I list a 2nd email address, which I own, so I
can receive a copy of the referral form for problems that arise just
like this.

TracFone Refer-A-Friend Department would not accept my copy as the
original. In actuality, my copy is identical to the original. The
only difference is the email address to which it is sent!.

Requiring the referrer (me) to keep up with referal forms that are
sent by TracFone to people I refer is unfair. This problem needs to
to be fixed. The TracFone Refer-A-Friend website *should*
automatically send a copy of the referral form to the referrer (me),
for every referral that is sent out.

I keep copies of everything, but don't make me responsible for records
the people I refer keep.

I requested to speak to the RAF associate's supervisor to argue my
case. After 5 minutes of explaining my situation to the supervisor,
he agreed and granted me my 120 free airtime minutes.

I don't remember his name, but he was very helpful, and listened to
this and other concerns I had about the Refer-A-Friend program and
agreed to forward them up the management chain.

Thank You TracFone Refer-A-Friend Department!

I just looked at tracfone.com and it appears that their Refer-a-Friend
program is being discontinued. Specifically, it says that ". . . new
enrollments and referrals are not being accepted" and "This is a
limited time offer". It says something about all referrals need to be
submitted by October 15, 2006. Sounds to me like the program is
winding down and somewhere in the fine print is the answer as to why
you aren't receiving your bonus(s).
