Degree Clinical Strength Deodorant Runs out quickly

Posted Tue February 5, 2008 1:33 pm, by Sarah W. written to Unilever United States Inc

Write a Letter to this Company

About 2 weeks ago, I was shopping at my local Walmart. I needed to pick up deodorant. I usually purchase Secret Clinical strength in the Light and Fresh scent because I can't stand any powder scent deodorants. This Walmart was out of the Light and Fresh scent, so I decided to purchase the Degree Clinical protection for women in the shower clean scent.
While the smell is nice and fresh, and the product keeps me dry and fresh all day, the product is hard to apply and doesn't come out of the holes evenly. Because of this, I feel like the product has been used up quicker than my Secret.

It would be nice if you could re-evaluate the caps on the deodorants. Secret only has three slots, so the product distributes cleanly and evenly.
I would love to continue to use your product, but at $8 a pop, when it is only lasting two weeks, where the Secret lasted twice as long, I feel that I am wasting my money.

Thank you for your time,
Sarah

I received this in my e-mail today:

Hello Sarah,

Thanks for writing!

We do apologize for your frustration with our packaging. The packaging
staff designs the packages and containers to meet needs of both the
product and the consumer for safety and convenience.

Packages are regularly reevaluated, based on consumer commentary and
preferences as well as business considerations. We will certainly
report your comments to the packaging staff. It is possible that the
container for that product will change at some time in the future.

We appreciate your providing your complete address, as we are sending
a complimentary coupon to try again.

Thank you for your interest!
Your friends at Degree
JB

I am pleased with the quick response, and the coupon is a nice touch,
but I am more happy that they took the time to actually read and
respond to my letter.

I hope you get a reply. Your suggestion and comparison to the other
product really sounds like something they may look into. Something as
simple as packaging design can be easily changed, and to lose market
share on a new product line because of something like this would make
sense for them to consider.

Your complaint started out great, but I think the supporting evidence
to be reworded.

First this:
"Because of this, I feel like the product has been used up
quicker than my Secret."

Then this:
"when it is only lasting two weeks, where the Secret lasted twice
as long"

Did the new deodorant only last two weeks? The phrase "lasting
two weeks" actually has no meaning in this context. "lasted
two weeks" does. That is something to complain about. Or is
there still some in the bottle? If so, you might better wait until it
is empty and say "Yours lasted 4 weeks, and the one I normally
use lasts two months."

I find it extremely hard to believe the bottle only lasts two weeks,
so it would be more effective to present legitimate numbers to the
company. I don't doubt it is going faster, but unless you have some
numbers, at this point all you can really say is "yours seems to
be going down a lot faster than theirs."

I was really confused between "being used up faster" and
knowing if the bottle is empty yet. The end of the letter makes it
sound as though it is empty.
