On my flight #1669 from SFO to HOU, Kelly the flight attendant asked if I wanted a drink. I asked for a coke and a water. I purchased a Cheeseburger and also needed to take my medicine. I received a cup of coke and a cup of water. I immediately drank the coke and asked for a refill. The Flight Attendant, KELLY, said I gave you a cup of coke and water already. Kelly said she needed to give the other passengers drinks before I can refill your cup. I said I did not get a can of coke just a cup. Kelly said you did not request a can of coke. The passenger behind me received a canned drink and I did not hear her request a can.
Give all customers the same amount of service.
Be fair and nice.

The letter writer is in the wrong and the flight attendant did nothing wrong.
The last four times I flew somewhere my drinks were given to me in cups. As were the drinks for everyone else on the planes I was on (since I used the bathroom at the back of coach on several of these flights shortly after drink service was completed, I was able to see others' drinks as I passed up the aisle).
So the letter writer actually is getting extra special treatment as she/he got TWO drinks in cups, NOT just one.

I think its pretty reasonable for the flight attendant to serve all customers first before providing refills. Learn to wait your turn.

Technically you still had your water, yes?
I cannot fathom any medication that can be taken with coke that cannot be taken with water. So although you still needed to take your medication, the fact that you drank the soda down immediately will not hurt you for taking the meds.
As for getting an entire can, it depends on what you ask for. As suggested below, asking for unusual drinks often gets you an entire can if no one else would want it. I prefer soda water for this myself

This is why I always request ginger ale or Dr Pepper. If you ask for something uncommon you'll get a full can right away because they know that they probably won't be able to serve the full can before it goes flat. Order a coke or pepsi or 7up and they'll pour a glass full and then refill it later because they know that they will have a dozen other requests for the same thing in the next 5-10 minutes.
I agree, it isn't necessarily fair but they do that to prevent waste as most of the time in the past people would get full cans automatically and leave the can half full as garbage.
