UPS Facility in Turmoil!

I recently ordered a package from Amazon.com, which was scheduled to be delivered on 12/11/2008 by UPS. On 12/11, We were not home, and the driver left an infonotice on the door. I then went online, and filled the form saying I would come to the UPS facility on Ronson Rd. in San Diego to pick the package up.

I arrived at the facility at approximately 1Pm, and was completely shocked at the turmoil inside.

There were about 15 people inside, and no organization at all!! I got into a line where I was told I needed to get into ANOTHER line to get my notice scanned.

So I moved into the next line where I waited for about 5 minutes for the gentleman to scan my notice. He then walked into the back, and came back and handed me a printed sheet, and told me to get back into the first line I had been standing in.

This next line was so people could hand the slip of paper that you had printed in the first line to someone, and then they would disappear for MINIMUM 30 minutes before returning with a package. So after waiting in this second line for approximately 2 hours, I was finally the next person in line.

However, the gentleman in front of me, stepped up to be helped. The woman scanned his sheet, and then disappeared for 45 minutes. she came back and said to the gentleman that she needed to go speak with management. She then disappeared again.

After she had been gone for another 25 minutes, the gentleman who had been waiting for his package finally turned to me and said he NEEDED to leave before he got fired from his job, and to tell the woman he had to go.

Another 25 minutes goes by and she finally comes back. I tell her that the customer she had been helping had to go, and she had the NERVE to act all bothered by this and make a nasty comment about him not waiting... to which I replied "well, do you blame him?"

At this point she looked me right in the eye, and said (very nastily) "well, now i need to go and put this package back where it goes", and she walked off!!!

Now, the gentleman who I first saw, who scanned my infonotice, came back and scanned about 5 additional infonotices, went in back, got the sheets of paper, and handed them to the people. He then said, "OK, I am going to look for these packages and then will be back" I then asked him if he would mind looking for mine as well, to which he seemed very surprised and said "You mean she did not go to get yours too?"

He was back in less than 10 minutes, not only with my package, but 4 others! Which leads me to wonder why this woman besides being extremely nasty was taking 30-45 minutes or more just to get ONE package!!

In the future I would like UPS to remember they NEED the consumers to keep their business afloat!! Without consumers, they would have NO business!!

I for one am going to FIRST, forward this letter along to amazon.com, and urge them to stop using UPS as their preferred shipper! I spend several THOUSAND dollars per year at amazon.com, and will STOP unless I can at least use my choice of shippers, such as USPS or FedEx. I will also think seriously about ordering from other companies if they only offer UPS as their shipper, making SURE they know the reason I will not do business with them, and urging them to at least offer the customer the choice of shipper!

I also am going to make sure I let everyone know, every chance I get NOT to use UPS to ship their items!!! There are so many other choices, WHY should people deal with this type of customer service??

UPS = Undelivered Parcel Service

UPS is not a consumer focus parcel services, its main fcous has always
been business to business, and its consumer service has always been a
afterthough.

Good grief! You would think a company as large and established as UPS
would have some sort of common sense way to handle customers at their
hubs.

This was a horrible experience and I hope they respond. I can testify
however, that USPS didn't do much better when delivering my package
from Amazon. They shipped my pkg from Jacksonville Florida up to
Pennsylvania...I live in Northern Florida. Someone with USPS mis-read
the shipping label and sent the package to PA instead.

I don't think they read in Jacksonville by dawniedawn67 Mon December 15, 2008 @ 7:28 AM

Tis the season. The UPS hub (I'm assuming this is one)CAN get very
busy with activity this time of year. It sounds like this facility
maybe did not properly separate pickups and returns. That could be a
staffing issue as well. It was 1pm - maybe someone was at lunch, or
out to lunch as the case may be.

An aggravating factor can be people not having packages properly
packed or sealed. I've seen that also.

I hope someone at UPS reads this and at least checks in on that
location. A little organization goes a long way. I wouldn't
generalize to all of UPS though - my hub is extremely well organized.
I'm a known supporter of UPS, but I'll admit that sometimes it does
get crazy at hubs. Remember this is the busiest time of the year.
While you could say they need to add staff to handle the load, the
fact is that the facility is designed for the average load - if they
say doubled the weigh stations, they wouldn't get used most of the
year. Even my local post office is going nuts right now, while it is
normally quite sane.

That is NUTS. I can't imagine anyone tolerating that more than once.
I'd go elsewhere as well!
