Furious With UPS

I placed an order with Newegg on June 27th. I paid for 3 day shipping and Newegg shipped it promptly on June 30th. The tracking said delivery would be today, July 3rd. I checked the tracking around 8am and saw that my package had arrived at my local hub at 6am yet delivery has been rescheduled for 7/7! That is eight days after it shipped! 3 Day Select means three days, does it not? Obviously your drivers are lazy and didn't feel like having to do their jobs a day before a big party holiday! Newegg has apologized and given me a full refund of the shipping charges, but I still find UPS's complete disregard for their promised delivery dates to be completely reprehensible.

I want my package ASAP! Three Day Select means three days, not eight!

From the tone of your letter, you seem to think UPS did this on
purpose to annoy you. But let me ask you a few questions. Did your
package have to travel anywhere near Illinois? From my experiences at
my job this week, I can tell you that due to flooding in that area,
many UPS deliveries have been delayed. That's because it's been too
dangerous for the drivers to go through those areas. We've had to
explain that to many, many customers this week. Luckily, the vast
majority of them understand.

Look at the detailed tracking information for your package. Do you see
any scans that say "mechanical failure" or "severe weather
conditions", or anything of that nature? That would indicate something
out of the UPS drivers' control.

Anything noted such as "misrouted at delivery center"? The package was
placed on the wrong truck and taken out of the way. That's not the
driver's fault either. It was the fault of the person at the delivery
center responsible for sorting packages. A simple human error. If that
person saw how outraged that had made you, I'm sure they'd feel bad.
Have you ever made a simple error, Michael?

Do you see any scans noted "Driver left early to get to holiday
barbecue"? Didn't think so.

I'm sure this package is really important to you, but it's obviously
not a matter of life or death, or you would've shelled out for Next
Day Air shipping. Newegg gave you your shipping charges back. The only
thing UPS could do at this point is refund Newegg the shipping costs
for this delivery (and I'm sure they will).

Enjoy the holiday, and look forward to getting your package on Monday.
Try to be nice to the driver who delivers it to you, okay? It's not
his fault.

UPS overworked drivers by passionatepisces Thu September 10, 2009 @ 7:50 PM

My UPS driver is too lazy to even ring the door bell. Just throw the
package on the step and run. I've watched him.

I don't expect much from them.

UPS' drivers are not lazy. That is a rude accusation based on... what
is it based on? The ones in my area work their butts off. If it
arrived at the hub at 6am, it likely wouldn't make it onto the truck.
My packages usually arrive the night before, at say 11pm or 1am. What
makes you think it was the driver's decision as to what was placed on
his truck, and what wasn't?

What you describe is four days, not 8. The 4th is a holiday, and Sat
and Sun are not delivery days.

You say it shipped on the 30th. When was the package actually scanned
as received for shipment? If just the billing info was received, that
doesn't count.

Whether of not they slipped one (1) day, there is no need to make
baseless accusations.

Wow. Two letters came in 20 minutes apart with exactly the same facts
under different names. What an amazing coincidence. I'm gonna play
the lottery tonight!

As Kelshir points out, in UPS terms that's four days, not eight days.

And it's not obvious that UPS drivers are lazy. You may have some
lazy ones where you live -- I don't know -- but the ones around here
are most definitely not lazy. There are all kinds of reasons that
they might reschedule a delivery.

At least in my area, when they push back dates like that it doesn't
always mean they're not going to deliver. Sometimes it just means
that the "Out for Delivery" scan hasn't been uploaded. My best guess
is that the rescheduling is automated: if the system doesn't have an
"Out for Delivery" scan by a certain ppoint it pushes the delivery
date back. It's annoying, but I generally wait until the end of the
day before assuming something isn't going to be delivered on time.
I've also been getting more recycled tracking numbers (I assume),
because often when I'm checking on a package's status it turns out to
have been left on a porch in Kansas three years ago or something.

You've got a valid complaint, whether it turns out to be that the
delivery was rescheduled or that the tracking information was wrong,
but the hyperbole really overshadows it, and that's a shame.

While it is not exactly three business days, it is not eight. The
fourth is a holiday so it does not count, July 5th and 6th are not
business days, so they do not count. So the business days are, 1st,
2nd, 3rd, and 7th.

Although, Newegg says it shipped on the 30th, but UPS might not have
picked up until the 1st, so it might not include the 1st as a business
day, so in that case you would be looking at 3 business days.
Companies usually list the ship date as the date they notify the
shipper to pick up the package even though UPS might not get the
package until a day later. Tracking number will tell exactly when UPS
picked up the package.

Your shipping has been refunded and insulting the (more than likely
overworked) drivers will get you nowhere.

Whatever you do or whatever happens, calm down, it is not worth
blowing a blood vessel over. I happen to know that Newegg does not
sell items necessary for living.
