Impossible to Get Anything from UPS

Do you really hate everyone that works for a living?

I, and most of the world, work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

So, when UPS tried to deliver my package on Friday at 11:00am, they obviously weren't able to get my signature for it.

I offered to pick it up after 5pm or on the weekend, but was informed that it wasn't at my nearest UPS facility just a couple miles away from me, but at a larger office, 25 miles away. That's close to a 1-hour drive in each direction. And the only way they could do that after 5:00 pm is if I could somehow show up within a 30 minute window after the driver arrives. Given the short notice, and lengthy commute, that would be borderline impossible to do. Not to mention somewhat expensive, and vastly, horribly inconvenient.

While UPS does seem to make some deliveries after 5:00 pm, they do not allow scheduling a delivery, even though I would be willing to wait an extra week until the time-frame could be met.

I was informed by customer service that I could have someone else pick it up for me. Considering all my friends also work at least 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday - Friday (when UPS offices are open), that wouldn't work.

I wouldn't opt to have it left at my door under any circumstances. Considering how close my front door is to the sidewalk many people use every day, I would consider it very likely to be stolen.

With the horribly inconvenient delivery times, it sounds like the only way I could possibly get my package would be to hire someone to pick it up from UPS and deliver it to my door at a reasonable time of day. What a concept!

Offer to schedule deliveries.

Allow both pickups and deliveries outside normal (bank's) business hours.

Offer both package pickup and deliveries on weekends.

Allow individuals to setup delivery preferences that will be automatically honored for every package sent to their address.

YOU are not a UPS customer. YOU are having a package delivered. UPS
caters to the shipper. Until the shippers (businesses) start
complaining about this nothing will change.

I do agree with you 100% that the hours are very inconvenient. I have
things delivered to my office but I know that isn't always an option
for some people. There have been times I have shipped things to my
mom just because she is home to sign.

Unless UPS was the only option by RedheadwGlasses Sun January 18, 2009 @ 9:52 PM

Most companies don't really give you an option. by Adam W. Mon January 19, 2009 @ 8:24 PM

You'd think they'd have later pickup times, even if it was just a
couple of nights a week.

Turns out this location's hub is very limited... by Commander-X-23 Sat January 17, 2009 @ 1:14 PM

Wow, the lunch hour restriction is ridiculous! by RedheadwGlasses Sat January 17, 2009 @ 1:43 PM

When I used to work for a living, I had three delivery options using
UPS.

1. Have packages delivered to my place of business.
2. Have packages delivered to my residence.
3. Have packages delivered to the UPS hub in my name, held for me to
pick them up. A friendly guy named John would call my house and leave
a message.

Personally, I find UPS to be very convenient. I'm sorry to hear they
don't meet your needs.

This is excellent feedback for UPS.

Frankly, this is the kind of inflexibility you'd expect from the Post
Office, not from a private company who, in the end, depends on their
customers for existence.

Not all employers will allow personal package deliveries at their work
place. Ours is one of these. BBut it cannot hurt to ask.

Just a few ideas and they may not even be able to be applied to your
circumstances:

if you have a neighbor who is home during the day, ask if they will
accept these deliveries for you. My neighbor does this for me and I
usually offer her a small token of my appreciation (gift card).

and if you live in an apartment complex sometimes the rental office
will accept the package for you. I used to work part time in one
during the evening hours because people would come after work hours to
look at an available apartment.

As someone else mentioned, have the delivery address changed to your
work address. They will do it. I've done it with both UPS and FedEx
before.

In the future, why not use your work address as the delivery address
in the first place? It will save you both time and aggravation.

Or call & have the package held for pick up and pick it up the next
day after work.

Call the 800# and have the package re-routed to your work address.
I have never heard of a UPS that tells you that you have to pick it
up within a 30 minute window...and frankly I find it almost impossible
to believe they told you that.

UPS is no different than any other delivery service about their
deliveries. FedEx and the post office will not schedule their
deliveries with you either. Maybe next time you should plan ahead and
have it delivered somewhere else.

Oh...and you can get it delivered on the weekend...it is called Next
Day Air Saturday delivery.
